I must disagree. Women do not have an out of proportion sense of entitlement. You get a man and then play mommy… If you are not a hot enough or satisfactory mommy the man moves on. Unless you are a fortuante woman who acquires a decent man who will work with you as a team or you acquire a sugar daddy. Standards as such have not changed so much over the years- unless you are a lesbian in which case the majority of your problems will stem from drama. That is the pattern I am noticing. Women go out of their way to impress a man that is true. Society makes it hard to exist, the media makes it hard to accept yourself, men make it hard by expecting women to be celebrity gorgeous. Anorexia is a problem just like depression. When people in your life tell you that it’s just a choice, it’s just your beliefs, it’s just your eating habits, it’s just this… or it’s just that… It does not help the person who is suffering. It adds weight to the pre-existing condition. Just like with depression which most anorexics suffer from as well – people can tell you it’s just this or that but that doesn’t help it adds to all the things that you can’t change right now. An added weight or ball and chain. It adds another element that is unhelpful.

Axe to grind? Duh. Any other brutally obvious observations you’d like to make? And yes, I am quite familiar with two different forms of mental illness that affect three different individuals near to me, and many other types that I have no direct personal experience with, but which were the subject of research. Your point? I am confused about your “I suppose you have no flaws” comment…as if that makes anything which was said any less relevant and/or true? Please, debate like an adult.

When confronted with unpleasant truths, expect a multitude of motivated (negative) reactions from those with some degree of the cultural brainwashing which affects the vast majority. The “I’m ok, you’re ok” approach is clearly doing a bang-up job, isnt it mamaRN? “Dont make waves” is another one. And “if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all” is especially helpful these days.

It’s frightfully easy to attack the individual bearing information that is unwanted. Complacency is one of the largest problems we have. Combined with conformity and compromise. Hey, lets call them the “Three C’s”.

The truth stinks, doesnt it? But in many peoples “perfect world”, it should be as appetizing and easy-on-the-ears as pancakes and jazz on a Sunday morning. Keep dreaming. You’ll find one consistency when you open your eyes to look for it…those who speak the truth without pretense and ego are never winning popularity contests. If you dont like the taste, attack the chef, right? Wake up, sheeple.

Yes, Reanna, we are familiar with mild and extreme body modifications in not only our own history, but around the world over the centuries. And yes, it certainly isnt a “new thing”, but the environment now is very different then in recent and distant history, as is the scale, as is the infinitely higher percentages of the affected.

There is no substitute for awareness.
