Is China Using Underage Gymnasts in Violation of Olympic Rules?

JERÉ LONGMAN and JULIET MACUR Report: Officials with the International Gymnastics Federation said that questions about He’s age had been raised by Chinese news media reports, USA Gymnastics and fans of the sport, but that Chinese authorities presented passport information to show that He is 16. Online records listing Chinese gymnasts and their ages that were posted on official Web sites in China, along with ages given in the official Chinese news media, however, seem to contradict the passport information, indicating that He and Jiang may be as young as 14 — two years below the Olympic limit.

I like how the IOC didn’t want to “upset” the hosts…so they didn’t push the issue. Underage gymnasts are considered a big advantage…so it is cheating as it is a RULE? They were better it is true, to bad that they were not even allowed to compete if they followed the rules like everyone else. One of them even had a State issued ID with her birthday imprinted on it on a web site last year…but suddenly she gets a passport “issued” 6 months before the Olympics with a different birth date..adding almost 2 years. Yeah nothing going on there.
They told the “heartwarming” story of one of the girls last night where she was taken from her family at the age of THREE and allowed to see her family MAYBE once a year. She wanted to come home and her parents said no…..yep quite a shining beacon….
