US Airways Says F-U To America

Posted in Dirty News, Scottsdale, The Dirty | December 9th, 2008

VERIFIED SOURCE: Nik, I am a huge fan of your site and I want to give you this information exclusively since I got the news today that I am being laid off by my employer.  I work for US Airways-America West in the accounting department.  They have just informed me that not only myself, but the entire department (30 people) will no longer have jobs as of January 2, 2009.  I knew it was coming, but the thing that upsets me the most is that they informed us that our positions will be outsourced to India.  I just wanted to get you the information because I am sure many other departments will be on the list for India.

I think that sucks… how can you have “US” (United States) in your name and decided to get rid of American employees to hire overseas.  Very un-American!  Obama please fix.- nik

    Leroy Jenkings says:

this is what happens when businesses are faced with higher taxes.. Ireland has some of the lowest business taxes and one of the fastest growing economies in the world. on the other hand, america has some of the highest taxes on businesses and their economy is.. well…

sorry for your loss but expect a lot more of this in the next 4 years.

Ahhh.. The IRISH Labor/Workforce isn’t Cheap D-BAG… The Business Taxes are…. People make good money these days in Ireland. However what Leroy Jenkins fails to mention is that the Sales Tax in Ireland (which is called a VAT = Value Added Tax) is 21% compared to 7 or 8% in the US.

That is a big fat myth. Yes, the tax rates in the US are high. But the actual tax payments are low because of all the loop holes and write-offs allowed by the IRS for businesses. And after all, it is what is paid that matters. The tax rate is not comaprable due to dissimilar tax policies.

That is laughable. The accounting department to India? That is a disaster waiting to happen. When are companies going to learn that you can’t outsource entire professional departments to foreign countries. Its one thing to outsource your call centers, and trust me those are bad enough, its entirely different matter for your accounting to be outsourced. Bad sign for US Airways.

Half the Pay... Try about 1/15 says:

I can answer this… Obama can stop companies from outsourcing Jobs to places like India by raising there taxes, closing loopholes, and not bailing them out down the road. However the Airlines will just pass the money onto you so instead of paying $500.00 to travel from LA to NY you’re now paying $600.00. Now that they raised prices to $600.00 dollars 1/5 of all travelers will go somewhere else for there flight. Now with 1/5 less travelers US Airways decides to cut 1/4 of the flights and along with that 1/4 of the flight crew, mechanics, baggage handlers, ticket people, security, etc. to save money.. Now that 1/4 of the service has been eliminated and the cost is now been reduced to $580.00 per ticket people still go elsewhere because of the limited dates available. Thus the Airline again cuts there flights and labor and outsources smaller flights to local airlines. The cycle continues for a few years and then the company declares bankruptcy. And you’re out of a Job. The best part is instead of 30 less employees there are now 4030 former employees looking for a job. So you just increased the competition and you remain unemployed longer.

“Obama please fix” ..I am going to educate you, moron. No one man can “fix” an economy, hundreds of millions of people making billions of decisions everyday. Central Planning doesn’t work. It creates misery. This is just the beginning. These industries can’t afford the labor costs associated with the unions. Funny how three institutions: airlines, auto industry and education are so heavily dominated by unions and they are failing!!!!!! If these companies are regulated, and told what to do at every turn so they say f*ck it and leave this country…Obamas solution for the economy, have people change light bulbs at Federal buildings and build green cars that no one effing wants. Get a clue man. Time to cut corporate taxes which are the highest in the world right here in the USA….

Right, I’m not saying that this will be the most effecient, but it will save them A LOT of money. It will cost less than 1/2 the price to run this show in India than it would in Tempe.

US Airways is already not any good and they’ve accepted it. They are on the fringe of going under (and by most analyst opinions, are the next major that will fail). I cashed in my Frequent Flyer miles a few months ago. Hell, they charge for sodas in-flight.. this airline is crap.
