THE DIRTY ARMY: (Transracial.net) - Word on the street is that Vibe magazine is shutting its doors — TODAY!
The mag’s PR team says no way — but even Mariah’s retoucher could not fix the slimness of Vibe’smost recent issues. The DL closing talk comes less than two months after Vibe’s reported brush with bankruptcy — and is yet another sign of the struggling media times.
If you wanna play blame-game, haters are saying the mag’s demise is the handiwork of Editor-in-Chief Danyel Smith – who was EIC from 1996 to 1999 and returned to the mag in 2006. Since then, folks say Vibe has fallen far out of touch with the current media and music environment. Although nothing has yet been confirmed, sources in the hip-hip blogosphere suspect that 17 year-old Vibe will resurface as an online-only venture somehow connected to its new spin-off THE MOST— whose debut was announced last month.
