hey alicia, did you ever consider that perhaps some of the legislation passed is done for the better of the country as a whole? (It’s also passed by Congress, not just the president). It may not necessarily benefit you right now, but the point is to look at the big picture, look in the long-term.
As for spending money that the US doesn’t have.. umm… hello? We’ve been doing that since we went off the gold standard. Basically every single president has spent more money than the US has since we’ve been off the gold standard. The point of healthcare, regulating water usage, etc. for everyone is for the better of our country. In California, if everyone just uses water and doesn’t pay attention, we will soon be a state with no water. I may not necessarily agree with many welfare/healthcare programs, as I’m most definitely fiscally republican, but if poor people can’t afford health care and die, who is going to make my sandwiches? Pump my gas?
Also, as far as spending us out of the economic depression we’re in.. He’s simply trying to get us out of the mess we’re in. He didn’t make this mess, the administration for the past 8 years did (as well as the millions of idiot Americans that were out spending more than they had, i.e., buying $250,000+ homes and only putting $20,000 or less down). The lack of government supervision and involvement led to the problem we are in. No one was keeping track of what was going on, and look where we are now.
Basically, what I’m trying to say is, while many programs may not seem to benefit you now, the general idea is for a better future. Yes, there are many flaws with the welfare system and many programs in the US, but there will always be some crackhead trying to abuse the welfare system, as well as greedy b*stards like Madoff. We need to take responsibility for ourselves and our country, if you know of someone abusing the system, report them, duh.
