They already do, Nik. We were in a Wal-Mart in Austin, TX when the Mexican cashier told the Mexican customers in Spanish that her lane was open. All the english speaking whiteys stayed in the english speaking line. (All meaning us, considering we were the only english speaking whiteys in there.)

So, if an ethnic hair product isle is racist, are the sections in grocery stores that are labled “mexican” also racist? Would it have been better for wal-mart to integrate ethnic hair products in with the rest? I think not! I don’t want to have to look through the Jerry Curl to find conditioner for non-ethnic hair, and I don’t think ethnic people would want to wade through the isles of choices for non-ethnic people to find what ethnic people want . Is the simple fact that wal-mart recognizes the intrensic difference between ethnic and non-ethic hair a problem? I hope not, because if it were then using categories to place people by ethnicity would then be wrong too. A simple acknowledgement of what is true and right in front of your face is never wrong. Ethnic hair is completely different from caucasian hair and needs different products altogether. It’s just like having separate sections in the store for Mexican or Oriental cooking items. It’s convenient for the customer who is looking for a specific class of item.

My family is the only black family in town. We love that aisle. Racist? I would not say so just because there is an ethnic aisle HOWEVER I do think that it is IMPROPER since White people are a group of people just as Black, Asian, and Hispanic.

I am a former employee of Walmart. I stocked the hair care products overnight. When I first started working there the Ethnic aisle bothered me and still does! Not because the products are separated, I appreciate that! But because it is named/called the “Ethnic” aisle. It is unnecessary and improper. BW
