The Biggest Scam Website On The Internet

THE DIRTY ARMY:  Nik, have you ever heard of www.thedjlist.com?  Apparently it list the top DJ’s in the world like 1 to 500.  I was checking it out and I don’t see any of your boys ANYWHERE on the list?  DJ Vice, DJ Hollywood, DJ 5, Samantha Ronson, Sparks, etc…no where to be seen.  What is up with that?  Do you like loser DJ’s?

That website is a farce.  Everyone that is truly in the nightlife industry knows that is a pay for play site.  They scam the public into thinking they have a legitimate system of ranking the worlds best DJ’s.  The truth is any DJ can be on that list for the right price!  I have been saving this picture below for the right moment and I think this is it.  The DJ next to Will Smith was the greatest DJ of our Generation and he has never once made the top 100 on that bull sh*t list.  Can you you guess who he is?- nik

**You don’t need a “list” to follow your heart… look at me, I am the greatest blogger of all time.

    INTOXICOLOGIST says:

The difference is that most of the DJs in that list actually are original artists. They have insane original tracks. Also, as Americans, we have DJs popular here. Those DJs are Global Underground. To some extent the is sampling, but its not just merging songs, mixing it in and tearing it up. I do not disagree how talented Vice, AM, and Scribble are, but lets face it… they aren’t known for their original tracks. This and the fact that this list is global are the main reasons why they aren’t on the top in my opinion.

Not even a fan but without Paul Van Dyke and Tiesto and Paul Oakenfeld there would be no music for half the nightclub scenes “I-pod DJ’s” to even smash together. Imitation is the highest form of flattery but without said DJ’s above and many more there would be hardly music for these “I-Pod Nightclub DJ’s” to be spinning (or is that pressing play?) in the first place.

    A Top 100 DJ says:

Nik, I just wanted to let you know that the list is very accurate to what the top DJs are in the world. It is not based on US club scenes, and what the 2 years ago music that is played here in the clubs is. I am in the top 100 DJs in the world overall, and log well over 100,000 miles a year in the air flying all over the world playing music. In March and April, I am on 3 continents around the world, and will play for thousands of people. I will log close to 40,000 miles in the air during those 2 months alone.

As was said earlier, all it takes to be a “celebrity DJ” is to have dated someone who is a celeb and BAM you are a hit. AM got his big break by hittin Nicole Richie. Ronson got her rise by dyking it up with Lindsey Lohan. And we wont even talk about the POS tool Pauly D. He sucks worse than any of them.

All of your forementioned DJs are computer DJs, and for the most part, always have been. Hollywood cut his teeth in the Vegas scene with R.O.B and worked his ass off to become the music director for PMG. But those of us in the list are NOt tools, and I have been in this industry for 20 years, and have paid a mortgage, cars, and my bills as a result of the music.

Open your eyes and realize that there is more of a world out there than just the local, hokey pokey clubs here in the US. In Europe, our music is played on the radio there during normal daytime hours. Not thrown into the dark, night time hours and only on weekends like it is here in the US. Why dont you come down to Miami for Winter Music Conference, and see what this scene is all about, Nik? Then you will see what WORLD music is all about, and the types of people who support what we love to do for them, which is to play music……….

The djlist IS a legit site. It contains not only dj’s but mostly producers who play out non-stop! Whoever wrote this article HAS NO IDEA ABOUT REAL DJ’S and WHO THEY ARE! Samantha Ronson????? There is a difference says:

There is a big difference between a DJ and a producer. A lot of times, producers are djs and vice versa, but that doesnt make them great. If we are rating them purely on DJ ability and not on original productions, then that list is not the most accurate. Look at all the elements incorporated into it. Djing is more than pressing play. Its formatting your music to the crowd, keeping them interested. It’s making clean transitions, unique cuts, combining elements of mixing with other elements like scratching, effects, on-the-fly remixing, etc. AM could do all of this and was well respected in the industry by veteran djs and newbs. Just because someone makes a “dope” original track doesn’t make them sh*t for a DJ.

    Talk Nightlife says:

The DJ List isn’t necessarily a pay-for-play list, what it is that any DJ, or anyone calling themselves a DJ, can put a little banner on their website, Facebook, or MySpace page and exhort people to click on it and register to vote. The mechanism itself is fairly open to the usual bag of tricks for registering votes in bulk, and thus, most music industry professionals don’t take this seriously. That being said, the top ten or so of this list mirrors professional industry rankings such as the DJ Mag (UK) one, and the DJ Times (US) one, since those lists somewhat reflect popularity in addition to industry opinion, i.e. the DJ List is really just a popularity contest.

The funny thing is, the number one DJ on that list, Tiësto, has actually recused himself from most professional DJ rankings as to give other DJs a shot at the top slots. He got the DJ Mag number one slot a few years in a row, figured “OK cool…” and moved on with things.

Now yes, most of the party rocker type of DJs aren’t on any of these lists. Simply put, outside of the US, they aren’t really that popular. All the major European centers of partying spawn their own local DJs and producers, most of which are of the electronic variety. The kids over there take it seriously enough, and a DJ isn’t respected unless he or she produces their own material, which a lot of the domestic open-format party rockers simply don’t, other than a few of the guys who can cut up some tracks for a mashup or two. Not to demean their skill, but there’s a big gap between the party rocker and an electronic music DJ who has the chops to produce decent tracks.

Things are changing though, more party rocker types are finally sitting down and getting their own remixes and original productions out there, and oddly enough they sound like house tracks half the time. With that, they’ll get the international credibility. American audiences simply aren’t challenging for a DJ. Here in Miami at least, there’s plenty of assclowns calling themselves DJs who simply troll TPB and D

Have to roll with FLAVA: on this, Z-Trip is f*cking insane on the decks. Look into the FINGERBANGERZ too, these guys kill it as a crew, GOLDENCHYLD and CUTSO will melt faces. They gig with Z-Trip too so if you have the chance to catch them together then it is worth it. All in all these list are pretty bias but being that there is such a wide demographic of DJ’s, listing a Top 100 is a bit of a joke. AOKI, not even listed in the TOP 25 says something of how these lists are composed. Shell out $350 for a pollstar.com account and check out the real stats sucka’s; it is pretty informative of what is going on.
