Jay-Z Is Suing Shady Baseball Player David Ortiz

THE DIRTY ARMY:  Nik, Rapper Jay-Z is not happy about Red Sox player David Ortiz’s new business venture. The athlete has opened a Dominican nightclub, which he’s calling Forty-Forty – just like Jay-Z’s chain of 40/40 clubs in Manhattan, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Jay-Z claims Ortiz is copying the club name to capitalize on his success with the 40/40 clubs. He is seeking $5 million in damages and is requesting that Ortiz drop the Forty-Forty name.

Jay-Z don’t waste your time… I wish you the best, but you have no shot at winning this case.- nik

Are you serious, Nik? This case has major lawsuit all over it. Jay Z’s club 40/40 has a string of franchised copywritten clubs. I’ll bet you 450.00 bucks that Papi ends up changing the name or having to shutdown the club.

      The Lawyer says:

I couldn’t agree more. Lindsay Lohan saying that the commercial with the stock trading baby and it’s reference to “that milkaholic Lindsay” was about her… now THAT was ridiculous. I personally don’t give two shts about either of these guys but Jay-Z is right.

        what? are you high?

jigga man’s net worth is said to be close to 547 million. Papi has dough, no doubt.. But Jay-Z is STACKED.

Roc-a- wear, his records, endorsements.. Shit he signed a deal with Livenation concert promotions for 150 million. That’s more than Papi has alone.

Is Jay-Z crazy? how the heck does he thinks he is going to win this lawsuit? The club is IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY JAY. Your best shot?? Sue him there…..oh that’s another mistake..no Judge in Dominican Republic is going to sympathize with you because you don’t have the name rights there. IDIOT!!!

      i said it... says:

you’re wrong. a franchised copyright has international laws attached to it which 40/40 has b/c of clubs in foreign countries…

That would be like someone opening up a fast food restaurant named “McDonaldson’s” in the DR. it aint gonna happen.

papi will have to change the name.

This makes me lose respect for Jay Z unless he has evidence that Ortiz intentionally stole the name and tried to copy the club and atmosphere. The 40/40 club has always been around baseball since Jose Canseco became the first player to accomplish the feet in 1988. It stands for 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases by a player in one season. It’s actually supposed to look the way the logo looks for Jay Z’s club, but Ortiz changed it to letters and “-”. With Ortiz being a ballplayer, I don’t see any case Jay Z unless he has evidence that it was intentional. If anything, Ortiz should of been more careful making the name of his club not similar to a rich money obsessed entrepreneur who could hire a team of lawyers to convict a 6 year old of embezzlement

Copyrights don’t have jurisdiction. Jay-Z owns sports teams, ol boy just plays on one. Plus owns the publishing to all his music (except Reasonable Doubt)… Jay has PLENTY more money. And Ortiz has BEEN to 40/40 twice, so he can’t really say he didn’t know… He is clearly trying to capitalize on an already established brand..

Define “owns”. Gay-Z “owns” 1% of the NETS. A real billionaire from Russia is about to buy the majority stake which is 80+% of the NETS. So define “owns”.

Since when is the 40/40 club a success?? The one in Las Vegas (Palazzo) has already been shut down for a while now & Emeril Lagasse took it over and made it profitable. Damon Dash had nothing to do with Jay-Z’s partnership in the 40/40 because he knew it was going to SUCK ASS!!
