Fisher is a liar and used his daughter’s cancer to get out of his contract. Fisher approached the Jazz management and requested a release so that his daughter could receive treatment on the east coast (New York). Practically the same day Larry H M**r released Derek he signed with the Lakers.
Everyones heart goes out to him and his daughter, but dont use her illness to get out of your contract and lie about your intentions.

If Derek Fisher put his daughter’s condition out for public consumption, let alone used it as a point of negotiation to get out of a legal contract, that was his choice. I’m sure if Derek would have asked Larry Miller to keep the reason close to the vest, the press would have been told he was released from the contract for personal or family reasons, but it was more important to Derek to bask in public sympathy. Fisher lied to Larry H. Miller when getting released from his contract. He said he needed to move somewhere closer to care (which is fine) in New York for his daughter. In turn was released from his contract and instead of moving closer to New York, moved farther away and to a team Jazz fans hate more than anyone. That’s what he lied about.
