THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, I have been reading your website for about 6 months. I have to say, in all sincerity, The Dirty is true genius. I am a college professor that teaches classes on postmodernism, popular culture, and sociology. I was directed to your website after a group discussion in one of my lectures. I view your website almost as a social experiment. I also think it’s eye-opening that you have exposed an area of our culture/society that is part of what America has become. What really shocks me is the hate-mail you receive. I can’t understand why the very people that your site caters to or embodies, act disgusted by your posts. While these people crave celebrity and infamy, they seem to want to punish you for giving them the negative attention their actions perpetuate. I want to say thank you for proving my long-time theory: people today have zero introspection. They have no accountability, and worst of all, no understanding of what our culture has become by their own actions. Nik, you may be one of the great modern day satirists. Thank you for doing what you do and giving faculty members at MidWestern University something to laugh and debate about. Like I said previously, it’s pure genius. Now for your next project…start lecturing at universities in sociology classes. Believe me, some of us would love to have you. Attendance to our lectures would go through the roof.

I get what you’re saying to a point….however this website has no filter at all. People can post whatever they want, whether it’s the truth or not. Lives are ruined daily because of Nik. Yes some people do deserve to be on here, but sometimes it’s just jealous girls, or heartbroken ex’s, etc making up lies to get back at someone. It’s wrong in every way possible. Why don’t you try making a positive website for once instead of feeding into all the hatred and negativity in the world, and then wonder why people have no accountability, and worst of all, no understanding of what our culture has become.
Somewhat true, but if you have incriminating photos on-line or via your cell phone, I have no pity. Think twice before taking that douche photo.
yes but I’ve seen PLENTY of people posted on here with normal pictures that were just jacked off their facebook profiles. Like I said, yes some people deserve to be on her but not everyone.

So the other day, I was thinking to myself: Hypothetically, theDirty could be the way it is now without NIK commentating and still get the same views. Now, Nik’s choice to participate with rude comments only leads one to believe that he actually is a bully and likes to pick on others while enticing others to participate in what he believes “everyone” thinks. I agree with a lot of what this “professor” says. And I do think Nik Richie has made a great product that actually serves a purpose.
I think it exposes what is real more than defames anyone.

Nik. Future professor of cultural history(also future welfare recipient). Glad to know im not the only academic who loves the site. Someone posted a former student of mine a couple years back. Just a warning ladiea..the internet is permanent. Keep your private life offline because most job hunters and many colleges begin searching google and facebook when making hiring decisions. Yout networks are your life and no one us want our college friday best influencing hiring.
Nik you could lecture to classes and i know tons of colleages teach the eebsite….for issues ranging from culture to law to politics of privacy.

In all fairness thought, I do agree with him. These girls and guys act like sluts/douchebags/whores/gangsters FOR ATTENTION, and then lose it on you when they get embarrassed. It;s not like you made some girl flash her vag in public, or like you make some guy text a picture of his penis.
Anyways I would attend that class. I wish the rest of the world would too.
Really what would Nik talk about? Nik is part of what society has become, so I highly doubt this was posted by a professor. At most it was probably a TA.

I’m a Christian female who also reads The Dirty daily, and have done so for almost 3 years now. I love this site, despite some of the negative comments from the readers and from Nik himself. The material is educational from a sociological standpoint, and very insightful. Attention seekers who post photos online choose to portray themselves a certain way. The Dirty is merely a wake up call to those who need it. Thanks for the daily entertainment Nik, and the refreshing insight that comes with it. Peace!

I too am a Sociology major, which is perhaps why I find this website so interesting. This professor put everything that I believe into words so perfectly! People take zero accountability for their actions, yet love the attention they get even if that attention is negative. Today’s young adults, and even teenagers, believe they are all entitled to something, be it money, fame, respect, etc. What happened to the days where one had to work had to achieve a certain status instead of just expecting it?

Best post i have come across on your site so far! I am a 40yr old wife and mother and have recently been pondering going back to college. I have decided I am definitely going back now. I would love to have Nik lecture in a class of mine. Postmodernism? ahahah GREAT idea!
