THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, Adam Carter called 911 Feb 11 at 9:30 am to inform them he was suicidal and wanted help. Deputy Thompson arrived to see Adam at the top of his stairs with a knife saying how he wanted to kill himself. Deputy Thompson told Adam to drop the knife and walk down the stairs. Adam took a few steps down without dropping the knife and received a double-tap to the chest. Thompson was clearly threatened by this drunk and crying man. So threatened he skipped his tazer and his pepper spray completely. Somehow Deputy Thompsons story of what happened does not match the two witnesses at the scene. Lately I’ve read on your website of different cops killing people…whether it’s a family in a car being hit by a deputy in his cruiser or my friend. Just because they are cops they are not above the law. Thompson made a misjudgement and should admit his guilt. Adam is loved by more than he thought and we want justice for our friend and I know you can achieve this Nik.
Cops like to brag about how many kills they have and always say that Taser guns are for girls.- nik

I’ve enjoyed your site until now, your reply to this moron poster has completely changed my mind. If someone you do NOT know comes towards you with a knife, you’d shoot them too. Read up, people call 911 and say their suicidal to get officers to come to them and then attack officers. Say that response you had Nik to the officers that protect you and your family from criminals.
to AnonymousTina Archer says:
I am Adam’s sister and the girl who posted this has some details wrong. Adam was 13 ft away from the office and there was someone between him and the cop and someone standing right behind him. he had a 3 inch paring knife and never verbally or physically threatened the officer. He could barely stand up. The stairs have 3 steps and Adam fell. He had already fallen down a flight of stairs that morning and had cut his arm, he was bleeding. The cop was in the doorway for less than a minute before shooting Adam in the chest and heart. Adam only called 911 bc the ATC center he was in a few days before wasn’t opened and their answering machine told him to call 911 if it was an emergency. Adam wanted a ride to a facility that would help him, that’s why he asked my uncle to call 911. Homicide By Cop Has Got To STOP!!!!!

Tina….. I’m disgusted that this post is here. I usually enjoy “The Dirty”, but people should know where to draw the line. I didn’t know your brother, or even know the details of his death. I am so sorry for your loss though, as I’ve suffered devastating losses recently. I hope your brotehr is at peace, and I wish the same for your family. I also hope all of you reading this will take a moment and think of how you would feel is roles were reversed. We’re all human, and hurt.
to AnonymousAnonymous says:
Thanks for your input, officer. But you’re assuming the guy came at the cop with a knife. The story being told is that he took 2 steps down, not that he came charging at the cop. So no, any trained human being should not be firing a gun in this instance. I dated a cop. They’re racist, cocky dicks.
to AnonymousAnonymous says:
you are an idiot! Especially because you think you know how the officer should have handled it just b/c you dated a cop….
to AnonymousAnonymous says:
I agree! He never charged the cop or “came at him”. The cop had a gun, bullet proof vest, and A LOT of space between him and Adam. In addition Adam had a 3in. paring knife! I really don’t care what he had NOTHING warranted him being shot twice in the chest.
to AnonymousAnonymous says:
it’s not the cops fault u have a record u bitter, law breaking/authority hating moron! maybe if there werent so many fk ups, the officer couldve trusted that he wasnt going to stab him???? shut up.
to AnonymousAnonymous says:
You are right, they weren’t there, and you weren’t either, so we can all make assumptions on what happened, but why would the officers story not match the witnesses story?

F.ck you redneck, go carry guns and shoot people, uneducated morons. Really, a guy at the top of the stairs takes 2 steps and gets popped. The officer wasnt able to put more room between himself and victim? And yes, I say victim. This cop is a moron, he had at least 5 additional solutions to this problem, including leaving the home and calling the number Adam called to try to talk him down. Getting a response team involved, pepper spray, a tazer, and finally, waiting until the individual was anywhere near him.
If this guy gets scared by a knife, from what it sounds like, at least 15-20 feet from him, dont become a cop…unless you want to shoot people. Cops are supposed to serve and protect, and in some cases, that means protect individuals from themselves. That is what Thompson signed up for, and now he should be locked the f.ck up!
to Anonymoushaha says:
Your the prejudice one if the first thing you start yelling is ‘redneck’….an individual can stab you at 20 feet in less than 2 seconds..a lot longer than a draw!!
to hahaAnonymous says:
If you are so brave and smart maybe next time they can call you instead, and the next time you need a cop deal with it yourself.
to AnonymousAnonymous says:
It is proven that within 21 feet a person can suddenly run at an officer and stab them before that officer can have time to unholster and shoot. To the people that think an officer should just pepper spray a person with a knife, or “shoot them in the leg or something”, you are extremely ignorant…don’t even get me started on your liberal asses. Also, the officer has a duty to protect the ones around them, and if you say there were two people also within stabbing distance, and this scenario is what the officer walked into, then yes his first instinct is to protect not only himself, but the others around him. The officer had a split second to make a hard decision, you see a knife, you see he is close to you and others, he begins to walk towards you when you tell him to stop, boom. End of story. Sorry your brother made the dumbass decision to be holding a knife around you all and refused to put it up, but that officer is going home to his wife and kids at night.
to AnonymousAria says:
I’m sorry, but what you wrote is idiotic.
to AriaI can’t believe how people judge others without understanding the situation first. Cops see the worst of people in this world. They see innocent people murdered, gutted, little babies and children raped and killed, people abusing their kids- the list goes on and on. And for some reason you people think that it’s very easy to logically consider all possibilities in that second, where that cop saw a guy who was breaking down, who was suicidal and who refused to drop a knife and took couple steps towards him. Are you really going to blame a person for possible saving his own life? Yes, it is sad that that guy got shot and died, it’s sad that his family has to go through this; but, was it wrong what that cop did? NO. He acted reasonably based on what was going on.
About what you said regarding that cop having 5 additional solutions to this problem, like leaving the home and calling back to that guy’s number – you are completely stupid. A knife is not something you want to turn your back to. How would you use a pepper spray against a knife? Pepper spray doesn’t make a person lose their consciousness, neither does a taser. If a cop would have tased or pepper spayed the guy, that person would have gotten an adrenaline rush because of the pain and would have resisted even more. And would have injured or killed the cop.
Personally, you would be an idiot (and shortly after, a dead idiot) to turn your back to a knife in the hands of a suicidal person, or try to talk him out that while he’s walking towards you.

These comments just prove how stupid most people are and how they believe everything they hear and read! Just because someone posted a biased story how they portray or heard the story to be doesn’t necessarily mean its true or its the way it actually went down. Google the story and read the facts and then make an intelligent decision about what happened! People are so damn gullible and dumb and believe every little thing they read. This is the same way the media brainwashes most people!
to LiamTina Archer says:
Liam this is true, a lot of people on here do not know the facts. My brother Adam, was drunk and already wounded though from a fall earlier that morning, he could barely stand and already had severe brain damage from being hit by a car when he was 10. Most of the news storys are false, most of the statements made by the deputy that shot my brother are false. I am not being one sided because i lost my brother. My husband is medically retired from the USMC with a purple heart and wants to be a cop. I do not believe all cops are bad and i’m not necessarily saying this one is, but he did make a bad decision based on the situation.. He did have previous military training and naturally you would think that that training would kick in but obviously that wasn’t the case. My brother was an amazing older brother and the media is making him out to be an awful guy..My younger cousin was getting beat up by her boyfriend and her parents nor the cops did anything so Adam beat him up and then the guy pressed charges resulting in the mugshot that the media used in the earlier stories about his death. When Adam was in middle school he came home upset because some friends of his were stomping and ant farm to death….Adam was the sweetest person who blamed everyone’s problems on himself..I love you Adam!

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (KPNX) — An Arizona man was shot to death by police Tuesday while holding his grandson.
Police say 50-year-old John Loxas was holding his grandchild in his arms as he walked around his Scottsdale neighborhood Tuesday night threatening neighbors and police.
“There were at least three officers in position to engage the suspect. At least one of the officers thought he saw something in the suspect’s hands,” said Sgt. Mark Clark.
Loxas was standing outside of his home with his grandchild still in his arms when Officer James Peters fired one shot to the head, killing the suspect.
Police say the 9-month-old boy was not injured during the shooting.
Officers also escaped unharmed.
Some neighbors are now questioning the officers actions.
Investigators say the officers on the scene thought Loxas was holding a gun.
Detectives did not find a weapon on Loxas following the shooting, but did locate several firearms inside the home.
Officer Peters, who fired the fatal shot, has been involved in seven shootings over the past decade.
Six of those have been fatal, and all have been ruled justified.

6. Would you put your gun down and take out pepper spray on a drunk suicidal men?
7. He had a knife in his back pocket all night. Question- why did the two witnesses not take it when he fell asleep? Why didn’t they try to get help while he was sleep?
8.Adam could have throw the knife at Thompson, he wad just that close.
9. If he wasn’t a threat, why was he in Holly Hills for a large amount of years? Hmmmm
10. Adam turned the knife from his self and towards the deputy.
I am saddened about the news that a young man lost his life. My prayers goes out to his family in their time of grieve. We must understand that family and friends are very upset due to the lost. No one wants to lose a love one. Everything that is being said is by his family and friends do of course they are going to say his wasn’t a threat. When Adam talked to the operator and said he he did something very bad, he said he cheated on his wife and had an 8 year old, clearly both are false and he was not in his right state of mind.

To anyone passing judgement on this. First off…. Adam was my best friend for a number of years, and though I don’t hate this police officer I do hold him responsible. Yes he was responding to a potentially violent situation and no one knows what was going through either parties mind.
to ashesI have no criminal background and have many friends who are cops, and all of them say that the officer should not have entered alone. Backup was on the way.
Adam was SEVERELY intoxicated, he had battled substance and alcohol abuse for a long time but he was not a bad person. He gave anything he could to help anyone, so to those saying he got what he asked for, you’re wrong because he asked for help.
Sye says:
I don’t know the full story and by the sound of things neither does the OP but let me tell you one thing: Please go watch some documentaries about police officers’ everyday work lives and open your mind. The cop blaming posts are so one-sided all the time. There was this post not long ago from some crybaby whose friend got arrested because she pulled her tongue out to a police officer (probably played down, I bet there was more to it like flipping the bird and name calling but whatever). I don’t know about the states but in the UK that would definitely get you arrested, often without any warnings. And there’s nothing wrong or “illegal” about that and most law-abiding citizens would agree with the arrest. Idiots always assume they’re untouchable because they’ve got some liquid courage and go spitting on cops and trash-talking, well newsflash, if you disrespect an officer they have the right to apprehend you.
to SyeIn this case, most weapon-wielding PO have the right to shoot if they feel that their lives are in danger, I doubt they will go shooting random people for no reason since they’d just get fired and prosecuted for that. Is it really worth losing your job, getting a bad reputation and possibly going to jail over senseless killing? I know I would shoot a suicidal mf-er who was walking towards me with a knife. They’re ready to die and might want to take me with them, what do I know?
Tina Archer says:
Adam also was hit by a car when he was 10 and suffered severe brain damage, my uncle and his best friend knew he wasn’t going to harm anyone or himself but they also knew they couln’t provide the mental support Adam needed and Adam wanted help, he never wanted anyone to get hurt and the officer should have came in and asked Adam where he wanted to go but instead he literally walked in the doorway which was 13 ft away from where adam was standing and shot within a minute of being inside. My uncle was standing between them and Adam’s friend was behind him. The cop didnt know who else was in the house and risked two other people’s lives in the process of murdering my brother. I do NOT have a criminal record and have never been arrested. My husband is a medically retired infantry marine, he served 5 years and was deployed to iraq, fallujah, and Marjah, Afghanistan. He has many awards and a purple heart for his service. He’s faced bad people and he does not agree with this. The officer was in the marine corp as well and he was a radio guy. Just because you served in the usmc it does not make you qualified to be a police officer. I know that all police officers are not bad but this guy clearly let his own feelings control his actions and should not be allowed to carry around a gun. I know good police officers and this guy is not one of them. Please get him off the streets before more people die!

couldn’t he have shot him somewhere else that wouldn’t have been a kill shot??? just sayin… dude called for help. he wanted to live, not for someone to come into his house & execute him. if he was drunk or on meds & didn’t understand the officer, does that give him a right to kill the dude? no. i don’t believe it does. i understand he had to protect himself, but seriously? whatever happened to shootin someone in the kneecap?
to AnonymousSad says:
Exactly! I will never understand why the need to shoot to kill, when clearly he wanted to live and needed help. Just shoot his shoulder or leg so he is able to be subdued and taken to a safe place to get help. It’s a tragedy and should not have gone down that way. So very sad.

From what I understand, there were other people involved…not just the cops and this guy. Yeah, if someone has a weapon and they don’t respond to verbal commands, the police are required to shoot them for OTHER people’s safety. They were merely doing their job…as in protecting others from this drunk pussy.
to CMAnonymous says:
I’m tired of people making excuses for Adam. Yes the accident did some damage, but he wasn’t some helpless challenged person like everyone’s been painting him recently. He was an addict. He knew it, his friends knew it and his family knew it. He shouldn’t have been released from treatment. He had countless opportunities to clean up and he squandered them all. He was wreckless, abusive and out of control. A three inch knife is long enough to hit a major artery. The officer involved told Adam to drop the weapon. He was warned. He knew exactly what he was doing when he continued to advance. That cop didn’t know what Adam was going to do- he saw a weapon, saw someone who was refusing to respond to his commands and acted accordingly. Cops are not trained to shoot to wound. What would have happened had he shot him in the leg? Adam could have continues his advancement. He could have flown into a rage
to AnonymousHe could have hurt the other people in the apartment. No matter what the outcome, everyone is going to blame the officer. No one thinks to ask why, if Adam was so incredibly damaged and unstable, was he allowed to live on his own? Why wasn’t he in treatment somewhere on a permanent basis? It’s time for people to take responsibility for their actions, or rather their lack of action. Don’t blame the cop. It was a shitty situation and he followed protocol. He did his job. It’s a shame that it ended in a death, but there’s no way anyone can say for certain that things couldn’t have gotten worse had the officer not taken the action he did.
Anonymous says:
Please know all the facts before you lay blame. Adam wanted to remain in treatment but was discharged without an option. Everything is not peachy in this world. Individuals are rarely eligible to receive the assistance they need, unless of course, they first commit heinous acts of crime-and then of course treatment is abundant.
to AnonymousAnonymous says:
There are always two sides to every argument. Unfortunately, in this case, the winning side is no longer able to speak for himself. It is a sad day when one has to forever regret calling 911 for someone who desperately needs help. The availability of treatment options for afterhours patients, in my opinion, is an outrage. Maybe this could have all been prevented in the first place.
