I have been very careful not to say anything about this because the truth is, we don’t know what happened. with all the hype and high emotion involved, we never will. if it turns out that zimmerman was jumped from behind, there will be riots. 20 more people will end up dead, and those people will never get justice either. the sad injustice of this entire thing is we are all fueling the riots now. this is the kerosine on the fire. there is no safe way around this now and everyone with strong feelings about this case will be sorely disappointed no matter the outcome.

Just read a carjacker stole a car and when they realized there was a 3 yr old child in the car they left the child on the sidewalk. It was snowing that night and the kid was able to knock on the door of some house at 2 or 3 in the morning looking for help. Lucky for him someone answered the door.

The first anon guy in this thread is correct. Self defense only applies when you are in fear of your life and have no other recourse. This went out the window when Zim exitrd his vehicle. Martin may have assaulted him and brought about his own death but as the gun owner you need to make the bigger choices. Zims choices at least partially resulted in this boys death.

If you thought someone posed a serious threat to you would you try to handle it on your own or wait until EMS personal got there. This does not justify murder. As a lawyer, I just wanted to throw this out there for those interested in the case. For those of you wanting justice, rest assured that he WILL go to jail. It will likely be a 22-30 year sentence with a release in the area of 18 years or so assuming good behavior. As for those claiming this was self defense, you are mistaken. This was NOT textbook self defense. Self defense requires someone initiating a threat towards you, causing you to fear for your safety or life. If anyone had a right to self defense, it was Mr. Martin. Zimmerman claiming self defense in this situation is absurd and will fail in court. This “self defense” is no different than, lets say, a man following a woman out to her car late at night, staring at her and then suddenly rushing her. Even if he just wanted to say hello, ask for her phone number, etc is irrelevant. The woman would assume (just as Mr. Martin did), that she is in danger and fights back. The man shoots said woman dead outside her car. Claiming self defense when you initiate an offense that never should have happened (and was directly your fault in the first place) will never fly in court. I have several attorneys that I work with who have had similar cases. They usually get very low sentences unfortunately. However, with the public outcry in this case, you can rest assured Zimmerman will be approaching his 60′s by the time he gets out.
