THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, this morning I woke up to news of my friend Mike passing away last night due to an overdose on Oxy’s. This is the 3rd friend I have lost in the past 18 months. It is sad what has happened to everyone I grew up with, most of them hooked on Oxy’s and just sit at home, smoke or snort this stuff and just sit there and get fat and do nothing with their lives. At the end of the day, our Government is the one to blame for this. Why allow a drug that is more addictive than heroin to be given to anyone makes no f*cking sense. My buddy was 23 years old, played college ball and everything, super healthy. Went to see a doctor, told him his back was always killing him and he had a hard time walking… so what does this doctor do? Without even Xrays, he prescribed him 90 80mg oxys without any questions. He didn’t need this pills, he had no back problems he just wanted to get high and the doctor allowed it. Its f*cking dumb, its sad when a drug brings in Billions of dollars, no one seems to care because so many are becoming rich off it. I wonder how many more friends I will lose.

If a patient complains of pain, we believe them and give medication for it regardless of our suspicions. The doctor could have told him to try other things before turning to meds though.

Yup, pretty hard to get over oxy. i was addicted to this shit for 3 years. 3 years I lost from age 18-21 I was licking the coating off crushing it and slamming it up my nose. I eventually came to my senses I NEEDED F*cking help.. I got it and I have been clean of painkillers since.. I currently had surgery on my meniscus excruciating pain in my right knee and refuse to take pk’s. I do not want to become dependent on them again the choo choo train will not start again with me.

The OP 80s are made so they can not be crushed and snorted. But the picture shows Opana 40′s. The 40mg, 30mg and 20mg are not made with the coating you described and can still be crushed and inhaled.
I clicked on the comments link thinking I was going to read more comments from people affected by prescription pill abuse and I was very surprised when I saw all the hostile comments directed towards the author.
Yes, his friend made his own decisions to abuse pills which led to his death. But I believe he just pointed his finger at the government, incorrectly placing the blame. I think that doctors have a huge part in this epidemic. Many doctors are aware of patients “doctor shopping” to get multiple scripts filled but supply anyway because they get kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies.
I know someone that has a script he obtained by claiming illegitimate back pain and he has told me that pharmacists are now reserving their painkillers for their patients they know legitimately need them. This may be due to a cutback in the distribution of oxy as I have heard they will be reformulating all pills and some doctors are even starting to suggest a topical solution to ease pain.

As a past drug addict I can say yes the stuff is hard to get off of. But in all fairness how can a doctor give someone something with out doing any tests to find another solution. I do agree that some people do need the drugs such as aforementioned cancer patients ect, but when their giving out drugs to people who don’t really need it that is not right. Doctors can do test to see if there is a dependency and drug addiction before just giving people drugs. My doctor always find a solution so i don’t have to take addictive pain killers for all the back problems I have now from doing drugs which I take responsibility for,and I refuse to take addictive drugs when there are other solutions. AS a former pain patient after getting hit by an idiot drunk driver going 80 on the freeway, I understand what back pain is. I have the MRI’s to prove it. I NEVER once crushed, snorted, or manipulated my pills. I took them because I literally couldnt stand up straight without help for my pain. While I do feel bad for those who fall victim to this addiction, its ultimately up to the person to get help or seek alternative treatments if they have real pain. And there are alternatives. First detox and rehab, Suboxone, and then physical rehab for pain including accupuncture, heat, massage, etc,etc. Do some research. It is addicting stuff-that I know! But there is a way out…

Hit the nail right on the head OC have been off the market for going on about 16 months now. Only non crushable OP Extended relief exist in the current market. Opiates are the #1 legitamate source of pain relief for legit pain patients and when not ABUSED. The key is the Abuse of anything not the product itself. So dont blame the oxy, blame the Abuser, they would just find another drug to abuse at some point anyway

Most pain management doctors perform a urine analysis on patients before prescribing them OxyContin. Doctors are audited by the DEA on their prescription habits. The poor patients that are there legitimately in need of a pain killer are scrutinized because of dead beats like this kid. Florida is known as a pill farm state and they need to crack down on the doctors and patients. Some of these doctors are just as high as the patients. All please be responsible and if you want to get high, just smoke weed. Do not get caught up in the opiate mess. Oh and if you go into a doctor requesting opiates and pop positive for weed, you are denied any drugs.

I had some minor surgery and got a prescription for Oxycodon. I have a pretty good pain threshold so I figured I might need one or two pills max. My prescription was for 20. I told the pharmacist I only wanted 1-2 and she said you get 20 per your insurance. Now I have 19 stupid pills that I’ll end up flushing down the toilet (Don’t worry I won’t) or giving them to some medical waste facility. What a waste.

percocets=oxycodone……………………oxycontin=time-released oxycodone that gives the user the whole amount (instead of releasing a little at a time when taken whole) when crushed and snorted or chewed. the new ones are called oxyneo in canada and they are less likely to be abused BUT if you’re patient and have a microwave, there are methods on the internet that show you how to abuse these pills. like i had written above, if the pharma. company REALLY wanted to help those with legitimate pain PLUS make abuse impossible they would put suboxone (i think it’s called burphorminein the states–totally wrong spelling, i apologize) BUT their excuse it’s that they would be too expensive to manufacture. like having drug addicts commit crimes and go to detox centers and rehabs is not…………………………..we live in a strange world and absolutely there should be blame on the government, specifically the fda for allowing such meds to be prescribed so easily and frequently. aren’t governments supposed to protect the citizen??

They have pain clinics owned by non-medical staff where people can pay cash for meds. No insurance accepted, cash only. every pillhead knows that when the “patent” runs out, other pharma. companies are able to make their own pills with the same active formula. it’s called a generic, oh high one. btw they are NOT illegal. as a matter of fact, pharmacies must give the patient the old type until the manufacturer runs out of it and then they are allowed to dole out the new ones.the only thing that happened was that doctors now have to follow new guidelines to prescribe to patients (ie cancer, severe chronic pain). pharma. reps in the past were telling docs to go to town prescribing the oxys for minor ailments such as tension headaches. i read somewhere that winona ryder was prescribed oxy for a bee sting.

I am a pharmacy technician in Tampa Florida, we have received a letter from the state of Florida the governor Rick Scott asking us not to sell any schedule 2 narcotics due to the large demand for it
and the abuse, deaths. I lie to people everyday telling them we do not have the medication and stock, we would have to order it. I work at the Walgreens on Fowler Avenue and I can tell you I personally turn away is least 150 people a day and that is not counting the ones on the telephone. I am telling you this because I don’t know what else to do maybe someone can a were some agency that this is taking place I can’t do anything because my pharmacist tells me to just tell them no we don’t have it we turn our way oxy and any other C 2 drug there is no shortage there is no back order I hope this helps some people.
