DWI Charges
Sylvie Arauz, 43, was arraigned on DWI charges and a violation from July 30.
“Is that person here?” inquired Judge Galloway, who did not see the petite defendant standing before him initially.
“This is a crime, a serious matter. You need an attorney,” urged the judge.
When asked what her take-home pay was weekly, Ms. Arauz quietly said, “$700 every week.”
The Judge assigned a court-appointed attorney for the defendant.
The defendant entered a plea of not guilty.
The assistant district attorney recommended a license suspension and a task referral.
The defendant’s attorney requested a hardship hearing, however the judge reminded the defendant that she must demonstrate that she can’t work without driving.
“That’s a little difficult in Westchester County because there are buses and trains,” he said referring to several forms of public transportation in the area.
