THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, this is not your average submission. This is a plea for help. You’re kinda my last hope. I was in Las Vegas about five months ago and I met a business man by the name of Adam. We had a one night thing. I met Adam at the Heart bar in Planet Hollywood. He has hazel eyes with dark brown hair. He said he was in Las Vegas for a work conference. We had a great conversation at the bar and instead of giving me his phone number he gave me his room key. Yes, I know, stupid. I feel stupid. It was Vegas and I haven’t been hit on in a long time. Adam had a work dinner and I had to go to a bachelorette party. So I ended up using the room key late late. I was a little tipsy and honestly I just wanted to get laid. I just got out of a 6 year relationship a year before so I was a little rusty in the sex department. Doesn’t matter. Forget the background Nik. The reason I’m telling the details is so Adam reads this and remembers exactly who I am. Adam I am 4 months pregnant with your child. I have no way of reaching you or even finding out who you are. I apologize for storming out in the morning and not leaving my number. Now I’m sad and lonely and I don’t want to be a single mother. I’m keeping the baby. Adam your child has a beautiful heartbeat. Wow. Does not sound good. By the way, at 4 months (16 weeks) abortion in most states is illegal. I’ve actually seen babies at 20 weeks survive. I think (My opinion) that if it can survive outside your body, abortion is not an answer. I am fully pro-choice, but with limits. Please, Nik, do at least give a bit of detail. Equally, the pain and horror of losing a wanted child is crippling.

This is so sad but this should be a lesson to all women. Please protect yourself. At the end of the day, it’s your body. Although it takes two, reality is that in this day in age, if you’re not in a relationship most likely the guy will not be there for you. Ladies respect yourself don’t have one night stands.

You made the choice to have a one night stand-unprotected. If the guy wanted anything to do with you or the baby, YOU WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN HIS ONE NIGHT STAND. He didn’t want anything more than sex from you before why would that change now? When you chose to have sex and get pregnant, there is always a chance you’ll be raising it on your own. That is what she should do. Don’t depend on the guy to support it or claim it. Take responsibility for YOUR choices.

The way I look at it is, when a guy can get pregnant then he can be in charge of the birth control. Until then, I will always do everything in my power to have available condoms for myself and be on the pill.

Uh actually the minimal viable preemie is about 24 weeks. Below that the survival is less than 5% with a guarantee of lifelong health problems. Major academic centers use a cut off of 23-24 weeks for NICU care. I should know – my wife is a pediatric heart surgeon and I have trained in neonatal critical care. Not sure where people are getting the 20 week number unless the fetus has flippers and a tail.
I call BS on the whole story.
I really, really hope that he didn’t do anything to harm the baby. If she found him, and then realized he wouldn’t be there for the child – she had every right to have an abortion, maybe she was thinking about not being able to provide – who knows? The way I see it, people have to understand that, unless one or both of you are unable to father/create a child, there’s always a chance this will happen. No protection is 100 percent. Men do not get to pick and choose which kids they will claim. You created it, knew you the risk, and you should help support it. The woman didn’t do this alone.
