THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, let me tell you a little bit about Crazy Eyed Marita Barger. She is from San Diego, CA and acts like she’s the Sh!t up here in Oregon. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard her name used around campus and not in the best way. If you hang with her expect a bad reputation. She is a backstabbing b!tch that has hurt many of my friends, which were in her sorority and classes. She has a lawsuit going on because she punched a girl in the face that is in the sorority she got KICKED OUT of… and she isn’t in a mental hospital yet? Supposedly she has a few restraining orders too? Word on the street is that she got pregnant freshman or sophomore year and got an abortion and now works for a pro-baby (against abortion) non-profit organization. And she tried killing herself which she openly admits in front of her journalism classes. She cycles through friends faster than milk expires. And will have sex with ANYONE AND EVERYONE.. including one of my friends boyfriends. She gets ridiculously drunk to the point where she’s been found in bad situations the next morning. She’s in one of my classes this term and I’ve been afraid to glance at those crazy eyes because with her temper, I might be the next girl she punches. Now that you know, doesn’t she define crazy eyes?

Surprisingly, “bullies can suffer long-term effects of bullying if their behavior is not addressed. Compelling research confirms that bullies are twice as likely as their peers to have criminal convictions and four times more likely to be multiple offenders.” (Abel, 2010). Sometimes a bully can actually hate the way they treat their victims but somehow feel justified in doing so since they are abused by others as well. Instead of supporting the person who is trying to victimize Marita (and potentially others as well) we should try something being used at other universities. It’s called “Bystander Intervention“. The thinking is that “we can reduce bullying by encouraging uninvolved students to step in to protest when they see [bullying] happening.”

The freedom of speech granted to us in the United States by the First Amendment. But in this case taken to the extreme with the intent to hurt another person. The author of the original post and all those who continue to slam and harass Marita are in deed suffering from an unhealthy lifestyle. That is, if you are not able to say something to someone while revealing your identity then you are pretending to be someone you are not. Thus, stop focusing on hurting someone but instead find a way to face your own faut and help those who hide behind an electronic device. It’s time to realize that cyber harassment and bullying do NOT make you feel better. If it does then you and our entire society are in trouble. Step back from your computer and take care of yourself by doing something positive. Don’t stoop to the author’s level but act with integrity!
