A political overhaul is needed in many countries. Most of us agree on that:) The interesting thing here, is a lot of you forget that taxes go to pay for roads, police, things that protect us and keep us safe. sure a portion goes to help those in poverty, but a lot of it goes to make the country run smoothly.
And of that %% that goes to help those in poverty, and other social programs, it’s generally put to good use and not even a fraction of what’s needed.
But you know what makes me sad here? A lot of those commenting against democrats, have no idea how the cycle of poverty kills ones spirit. How emotionally beaten down most of these folks already are. Your lack of empathy speaks volumes and your unawareness and uncaring attitude are telling of your callousness.
And by the time it comes to pick universities, it’s too late for most of them to rise above, even to have 1/10 the chance you were given by birth by your professional parents. By the time schools like Harvard ect give their well intended scholarship handouts, it’s too late – Way too late to help most of them and they don’t make the cut because they school, the public one their parents could send them too, was a disgrace in the world of high academics.
Look…If the parents are high school drops outs, basic labor working struggling to make ends meet, how far do you think their children will go if they take on enormous school debt, and have to pay to eat and work to rent a place while at school? I mean seriously, until you’ve walked a mile in a poverty stricken persons shoes, don’t judge, and don’t you DARE say, well, they didn’t work for it, so get off my coattails you useless leach!!! When you, by birth, got your school paid for, a car, rent, and parents friends to cushion your way to a nice little job..

Open your eyes. Do you know how much money has been spent on the war on poverty? $5 trillion in the last nearly 50 years. And for what? The percentage of people living in poverty is the same. But what’s more costly are the lives this “compassion” has destroyed. The illegitimacy rate of black children has gone from 24% to 70% during this time. Of course that statistic has increased for all races, but black families were hit the hardest. I’m all for a hand up, but not dooming someone and their progeny to a cycle of dependency and ruining their lives.

Furthermore, when you hear Warren Buffett talking about paying a lower rate than his secretary, it’s bunch of bullshit because you’re comparing apples to oranges. His secretary pays a payroll tax rate. Most of Buffett’s income is on capital gains. So, he pays a capital gains rate. The funds used to purchase the capital was already taxed. Having a lower capital gains rate encourages people to invest, which actually results in more revenue to the government.

The situation is a little more complicated than that and this example is not a good way to “simplify” the situation because there are other factors that play into it. The means in which you “earn candy” or earn monkey are not the same. The wealthy don’t earn all their wealth by “working” for it, most of them are wealthy because they inherited it, as in not earn their own money. Most of the wealthy are already born into that lifestyle, with resources available to them that help them stay wealthy, (i.e. rich parents, family memebers, etc)

You are confusing payroll tax with capital gains tax. Higher income people DO pay a higher payroll tax. But many get most of their income from capital gains, which taxed at 15%. However, the original investment funds used for the capital was already taxed. You do not want to increase capital gains taxes because lower rates encourage investment and grows the economy. Don’t be such a patsy.

When SSI was started, there were about 65 people paying for each recipient. Now, we’re down to 16 to 1. When Obama took office, it was 19 to 1.

When American was at it’s peak the tax rate for the wealthy was 90%. Despite GOP claims I have yet to see the gov take money out my accounts or pay checks and randomly give them to the poor (any more than the standard taxes we have always been paying).
I am not in the 1% but I make over $100K. I work hard and if an extra 2% of my pay goes to help someone who can’t or won’t help themselves….so be it. If I need more money I just work harder…I am not afraid to.
What scares me more is there are people who think Nik is a leader and look up to him. That is what is really wrong with this country.

I fail to see how taking money out of the private sector and wasting in the federal bureaucracy helps the economy. And yes, I said waste. Not all the money goes to help the less fortunate. Your 90% figure was from the Eisenhower era. The good economy was more the result of WWII ending. John Kennedy (that evil supply siding Democrat) cut that top rate (and rates across the board) to 65%. This resulted in a reduction in unemployment and an INCREASE in revenue.
Go give that extra 2% yourself then! You’re soo noble willing to share. Well, there’s a difference between me willingly sharing and feeling good about it because I helped out someone who needed it and the government TAKING MY MONEY whether I like it or not! And congrats on being able to make more just by deciding to work a little harder. The vast majority of us don’t see a corresponding increase in benefits as our work hours go up.
Also, that extra 2% doesn’t all go to the needy. Much of it gets eaten up in federal bureaucracy and pork barrel spending, i.e., waste. Why don’t you give that extra 2% to a well run charity if you want to help the needy.

But Obama view the Constitution as a flawed document because it doesn’t spell out what government can do for you, or put another way, do to you. Because in order for government to give someone something, it has to take it away from someone else first.

First, Kara, Obamacare was not passed with a Republican majority. The bill that was ultimately passed was first passed in the Senate when Democrats had a supermajority there and a majority in the House. So, get your facts straight. Secondly, you asked me to name a freedom taken away. I did. Isn’t one enough? But allow me to elaborate. What about religious institutions having their First Amendment rights violated by being forced to provide services to which they are morally opposed to their employees? What about the harrassment of Gibson by the DOJ just because they are non-union and the CEO is a Republican? What about the increased regulations that are putting businesses such as coal burning electric plants out of business? And what about the President violating the Constitution by issuing executive orders on issues that should be addressed by Congress? Lastly, don’t put words into my mouth. I never said anything such as Obama being a Muslim or being born in Kenya. But you did go there by claiming Romney was born in Mexico. He wasn’t. His father was. And I have been specific.

Kara, first of all, way to stereotype. Not all southerners are rubes. Secondly, apart from the welfare (they shouldn’t be getting it if they are of sound mind and body), if that’s how someone wants to live their life, they are free to do so. Who are you to tell them how to live?

Kara, good answer. I understand your point, but I like a political post on here every now and then because it’s not a political site. Political sites tend to lean one way or the other. So, comments can be skewed. Here, you get a better feel for what the prevailing sentiment is. I go to PerezHilton for the same reason.
