27 Dead At Sandy Hook Elementary School In Connecticut
**Update: Adam Lanza has been identified as the suspected shooter in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Conn., the Associated Press reports. Police initially identified the shooter as Ryan Lanza, the 24-year-old elder brother of Adam Lanza. According to the AP, the error occurred when a law enforcement official transposed the names of the two men. State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance would not confirm the identity of the suspect in a 5 p.m. news conference, though he said that officials have “tentatively” identified the suspect. The New York Post also reports that Adam Lanza was the suspected gunman. t least 27 people — including 20 children — are dead following the shooting.

The point of gun control would be to simply make it harder for people to get their hands on them when they’re having a meltdown, and ideally decrease the likelihood of tragedies like this.

This is another truly saddening event that was caused by a despicable human being who decided their life wasn’t worth living and chose to murder the innocent.

I agree with many who argue that while it is not an issue to own handguns or shotguns used for hunting and protection, I do not believe anyone has a need or a right to own a gun that was invented and intended for mass casualties. There is simply NO reason someone living in this country needs to posses one of these violent weapons. I rea;ize this probably would not have made a difference in CT, but it needs to be addressed. That being said, to those of you who are demanding gun control across the board, even if you can stop the manufacturing and selling of any type of guns it won’t change anything. Enough of these weapons already exist that if someone wants to acquire one, they will. I for one don’t want the government breaking down my door to see if I have any, and I doubt those that do will relinquish them. I am from Connecticut. This is so unreal and sad. I feel so bad for the family of these kids and their family. This is why we need to stop having so much hate. Stop worrying about people’s looks and worry more about people’s life. Appearance don’t mean shit now. These people are dead. How fucking sad.
The issue is not gun control, people can get anything that is illegal. Are we forgetting about drugs? As long as they is a black market that exists for these things, people will find a way. Stricter laws in order to procure a gun, a limit on how many one can have would be better. Unfortunately there is no sure fire way to prevent something like this from happening, although I wonder why the school wasn’t locked down, as is very common for most schools nowadays, for not only added security, but to prevent people from just strolling into a school.
I used to Nanny for two school age children last summer that had there school accessible through the office, and you had to be buzzed in, and cctv was recording you by that door. I have tried many times to get my mentally ill sister comitted, begged the police to arrest her when she is out of her mind delusional and has comitted minor vandalism crimes, begged her psychiatrist to comit her and been told that everyone’s hand were tied until she hurt someone. This country needs to start taking mental illness seriously and helping people who have to stand by powerless to stop their loved ones from self destructing. It’s pretty clear this kid was batshit crazy and no one could do anything to get him help. If you have ever had a mentally ill relative you know what I mean. There are too many guns already accessible to those who want them for a ban on assault weapons to do any good. The real answer is limiting the ammunition you can buy to put in them. Yes, I know a real enthusiast who has weapons can make the bullets themselves. However, it is a start and we need to start doing something, anything to ensure these types of violent rampages are at the very least rare occurrences and not weekly happenings.

She was probably so caught up in being the all-American wife/mom, that she overlooked her sons issus or denied them all together. She probably thought giving him access to weapons was part of his “rights”.

Sure you’re going to get the odd case where a sick individual is able to find access to a gun in some way but you’d never see killing on a scale the way we saw in Connecticut or aurora or columbine where the individuals had multiple guns and assault rifles and ammo. I don’t know anyone from this incident but my heart is so broken for these children and their parents. Pointing fingers doesn’t help, hatred doesn’t help, we just need to pray for these families, and learn from this to appreciate our loved ones, tragedy doesn’t discriminate, it can happen to any age group, race, or religious group. So sad.

Armed guards and pat downs need to happen at every school in the country if you are trying to enter it if you a coming after the classes have started ..
