Were they persecuting people in Canada? Did you escape a civil war? Was your family plotting to bring down the government? I’m sure some people wish that they had Canada to go back to. Though mind you it is more expensive to live here compared to down South. I think there are pros and cons to both Countries. I have considered moving down there just for the hell of it & apply for a work visa, but I think I just love BC too much. Who knows, maybe in the future.

Taxes are not 50% in Canada, we have a sliding scale of taxes, much like the USA. Those with more, pay more, those with less pay less.
However, I do agree with many posters, it makes me laugh when crazy right-wing Americans claim they are going to move to Canada. We are indeed a socialist country, and we do have pretty high taxes all things considered. If you don’t like what’s happening in America, you will definitely not like Canada.

umm? the reason your country is slowly failing is because you don’t want to pay for the stuff you need. taxes aren’t bullshit (even though, granted, your government seems to spend it on shit you don’t really need), they’re used to pay for all the stuff you’re used to. infrastructure, hospitals, schools (which could use a LOT more funding considering half the shit i’ve read on here). i go across the border into the US and you guys pay a VAST amount less of tax for the stuff you buy, and less income tax. shit’s not perfect here by any means but we are comfortable. you want a high standard of living without your country falling into an even bigger pit of debt? then stop complaining about your comparatively low taxes.
LOL – if you are planning on leaving the US because you don’t want to be taxed you would be in the biggest shock of your life if you moved to Canada. We are taxed outrageously on absolutely everything, if you come to Canada you will not find any of those things cheaper here than in the US.
In Canada we get taxed on that stuff already, we are taxed on everything we buy and depending what province you live in determines at what rate so time to get over it!

I’m Canadian and we pay a shit ton of taxes. There are successful socialist countries but we are a poorly run one. Too many public interest groups in Canada. It is on a sliding scale but say if you make 120k, you will pay 60k in income tax alone. There is also consumption taxes and many other taxes. Everything else is also expensive, our food, clothes, liquor, everything. I really have respect for you Americans. You guys are such loyal fighters for your country.
