Should I Pursue A Career In What I Love To Do
THE DIRTY ARMY: Hey Nik, I am finishing college this year with a degree in business, however I have always had a passion for acting as well. What would be the “right” thing to do: get a career with my degree or try to hunt down acting auditions? I know the logical answer would be “pick what you feel like doing/you can do whatever you want” but I know that you’re deadly honest and to the point. I’m sure you’re aware of everything that goes around in Hollywood and so I guess I would like to know; is it worth all the glory in the end? Would I just be joining the dreads of all other “aspiring actors” or is it something I should really try out? I could do the moral/just thing and find a career with a degree I worked hard for but I still can’t help thinking about tinsel town. I don’t want to wake up one day and ponder “what if”. I guess I would like to know what you would say to your own daughter if she was in this position.

What Nik is trying to say here is everything you think you know about Hollywood, actors and the acting profession is a complex ruse that has been going for nearly 80 years now. No one “makes it” anymore. The stories you hear to that effect are fabricated so people keep coming to Hollywood and spending money on rent, stores and nightlife. Not to mention the thousands of photographers, acting classes and other scam businesses that exist because of idiots who don’t understand how the fame machine works. Get a job.

I have a passion for acting as well but I know how difficult it is to break into the business so I just do it as a hobby when I have the time and work a regular stable job. I signed up with an agency and they know I work full time so they understand if i’m unable to take a job. I do mainly extra work and the odd commercial or low budget movie. You need to be realistic about it. If fame is ultimately what you want then you really don’t love acting you just want to be a celebrity, but if it’s really your passion then you’ll be fine with doing the odd small gig here and there.
I’ve never really understood the Chase for fame. All my life I’ve always had to fight the opposite; prove people I was more than just looks. I still have to. The looks/vibes I get until I actually start speaking. I hate it. Have you ever felt like you are wearing a mask? I look like this woman on the outside that I don’t feel like on in the inside. Not saying I am so hot or something, just trying to give you a different perspective. I enjoy challenging my mind and being productive.

No silly. Some people just don’t get it. I have never wanted to be famous. It actually freaks me out. Why would you want people to know your every move.All I am saying is that I was fortunate to be born with some looks and I have always worked hard on being known for me(that includes personality plus my work ethic) and not be known for my looks. I am a brunette, 5’2, hourglass figure with ITG (as Nik loves to call it) + real breasts cup size D (Yup real “saggers)”. Acting,singing or modelling has never been appealing to me. Is this okay? So, actually I am laughing at you for not realizing I am stating the truth.
I am a Phlebotomist. Now go ahead and make some more fun of the citizens who actually contribute to society.

miss green eyes: your apparent need to prove yourself to strangers on a blog makes you seem incredibly insecure, and your writing indicates that you’re not as intelligent as you claim. based on the physical description that you provided, i doubt anyone gives you a second glance. but keep telling us/yourself whatever makes you feel superior to the “common man.”

I am still young, I have plenty of time to set up more goals to accomplish. Who knew, apparently what I do is not good enough. So pathetic you are for even saying that Courtney. Sounds like you want fame more than you love acting. Best way to get fame is to be good at sports. If that’s not an option, invent something people will like a lot and put your name on it. Hollywood is for suckers.

Stay away. Far away! If you not Jewish, gay or both…have drug habit, mental issues, will to suck dick or take it in the ass, your parents are not in the biz and extremely rich, your aunt or uncle happen to be one of the largest directors, producers, casting agents, you dont have a shot. I have friends with degrees still trying to make it 20 years later. 40 years old and they are waiters, door guys, and bottle service girls. Knew a few girls that turned to escorting to pay the bills. Is that reality bleak enough for you.
Take your degree and work hard in that field…you will be much more fulfilled and happy in that life.
And this is why there are no original ideas anymore. The directors, writers, etc. aren’t earned positions. They are grants. The best talent doesn’t win anymore. That’s why every song and movie now is somehow, someway, a rehash of a former masterpiece. The common peasant (75% of you) is incapable of seeing this.
Follow your dreams. Just because not many people make it doesn’t mean you won’t. Besides you could start a career with your degree and try to get into acting on the side. Don’t give up your dreams for anyone or anything in life. Otherwise you’ll always be wondering and be unhappy with yourself because you didn’t try your options that you have a passion for. It doesn’t hurt to try. Besides, then you can come back here and tell all these ass hole that you made it
Try the acting for a year or so and get it out of your system, if it works out great, if it doesn’t then go in your chosen business career. Looking back you can say you gave it a shot, but if you never try to get into acting it will bother you for the rest of your life. So get it off your chest and give it a try.

This is important to me: @ wow I never think I am superior to anyone. I live and work among the “common man” so I don’t know what the hell you were talking about. Just because I mention my physical appearance does not mean I think I am better than others. I was trying to give my perspective. Are you a simpleton or something? Can you not read between the lines or do you take everything at face value? The “common people” are my people. I was merely expressing my feelings. I am a good friend in all my relationships (friends and family). I know people of all shapes, sizes and color. I know people from all backgrounds and upbringings. This is my world. Don’t be a fool and jump to conclusions.

If you want to be actor, try out for some local troupe and do it as a hobby. Going to Hollywood to chase fame will break you. I know a guy who went out there a few years back to make it in the music business. He’s gone nowhere and he’s given up his dignity in the process.
