THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, in the midst of this never-ending NHL lockout, there’s an anual tournament called the World Junior Hockey Championships which appears to have relieved some of the hockey-hungry fanatics in this country. In my mind, the lockout proves just how bush league the NHL really is. There is minimal exposure and interest south of the border. There is no lucrative national TV contract. The athletes representing the damn sport have as much personality as cardboard, and yet they command contracts on par with sports leagues making ten times more revenue. This game has no future and no credibility in the United States. The 2013 World Junior Championships are being played in Russia and people are actually getting up at 4:30 am to watch these games. Team Canada played f*cking GERMANY the other day, and this is considered a big ticket event for people? Who the f*ck cares about junior hockey? Nik, can you please give my fellow Canadians a dose of reality and tell them that hockey f*cking sucks and to move on? When the NFL had its lockout, it was all over ESPN, they would interrupt a broadcast to let us know Roger Goodwell took a crap. Nothing on ESPN about this.

The comment about contracts being similar to other sports is completely inaccurate as well. Hockey players do not make nearly the amount of money as the other “Big Three” sports. I am guessing you are not a fan or you would see that this post pretty stupid.

With all do respect… The NHL players are the lowest paid professional athletes in pro sports along with playing 82 games a year. The average contract is $2.4 million a year. Basketball and Football players are paid very well for what they do. Understanding that hockey is a sport common to the Canadian population, It is very common in the US. I feel that “Bush” league is not a proper description of athletes that skate at 25 MPH on a 1/8 inch steel blades with no ability to go out of bounds to avoid a hit. Watching a football game you will see a wide receiver celebrate after a first down. Sweet Work dude! You did your job. You do not see a goalie in hockey dancing like an idiot when they make a save. That is what they train for and are paid for. The greedy owners of hockey want a larger share on the jersey sales of which the money went to the players. Greedy non playing hockey owners are the demise of the league not the players or the sport. Watch a game and understand it before you clown around on a website!

Hockey is a definitely a Canadian dominated sport but there have been more and will continue to be more youth hockey programs developed. Questioning the credibility of the league is one thing but to question the ability of the players is another. In football, when a wide receiver gets a first down they celebrate and dance around. Good work dude! You did your job. In hockey you do not see a goalie jumping around like an idiot when the make a save or gets a shut out, they simply continue on with their business. This is what they are paid for and train for. Also when you are playing hockey you can not run out of bounds or slide to avoid a hit. Every other sport on the planet you are able to scamper out of bounds before getting hit. During a 60 minute game, a hockey player is balancing on and skating up to 27 MPH on 1/8 inch of a steel blade, not their feet. That is athleticism. We are in an age of greedy ass owners who want a bigger share of jersey sales for NHL players. The players just want to play a game that they played on the pond back home when they were little. Before you go out on a website to downgrade a sport that is way above your level, please learn more about it.

I enjoy and have played all sports and hockey is by far the hardest. As far as the comment about hockey players personalities, I would rather listen to a somewhat humble, boring athlete than listen to most of the uneducated players from the nba or nfl talk about how much jewelry they have or about their 4 th arrest this year.

The NHL season is way too long. Who wants to watch hockey when it’s may and June when winter is over. Hockey is a winter sport and should only be played in the winter. November to April max. 6 months like the nfl. It’s so easy to follow football @ 1 game a week. Baseball should also be chopped in half. I don’t have 3 hours a day 6 days a week to waste on that. Hockey should stick to colder areas because it will NEVER be mainstream in most of the USA
