When Will Pro Skaters Realize They Are A Huge Influence On Children
THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, this is pro skater Torey Pudwill and he is my sons favorite skateboarder… as I’m sure he is a role model to many other young kids who skateboard and have dreams and ambitions of being pro’s. Now we all know there young pro’s are filthy rich because of parents like me that go out and buy our kids the brand of shoes, shirts, hats, grip tape, skateboard, etc… that a skater like Torey wears and is sponsored by. What makes me mad is when they go on a social network and start bragging about smoking weed… Now I’m 42 and find nothing wrong with smoking, I smoke pot on a daily basis. But it makes me mad when my 9 year old son is asking me what Raw Papers are and if I can buy him some, obviously because his favorite skateboarder is advertising them, I’m not surprised he wanted some. I just wish these skaters would realize why they have what they have. I understand they party, drink, smoke and party with hot girls but keep that to yourselves. No need to post it all over social networks, they have so much influence on youth and need to realize that.

Everybody goes crazy for Marijuana.. How many parents(i bet the poster as well) have given their children a taste of alcohol? Only because society thinks alcohol is okay. I am so god dam sick of MJ being so judged, when in fact it is the safest drug in our society.

To the poster: it’s not this guys job to parent your kids or anyone else’s. If you don’t want your kid smoking weed then it’s your job to educate him on drug use. This guy doesn’t care that kids look up to him, he’s a young dude with a lot of money, that’s why it’s YOU who has to act as the role model for your kid. If a child is being properly parented they will turn out just fine despite influences from the media.
sheltering kids from this stuff won’t exactly help.. you should be prepared as a parent to answer some awkward questions.

Now.. being a role model is a state of mind. Professional athletes arent required to be role models just because they play basketball or football or in this case skate boarding. THAT IS THEIR JOB. Cops, firemen, hell.. even janitors can be a role model. If the guy is a special guest on sesame street one day and caught doing blow of a strippers ass in a motel 8.. then yeah.. thats bad.. but if the guy is just doing his thing.. then let him be and be a parent and find your kid another role model… or better yet.. be a role model for them.
