He is actually a student at Stubenville High School. The group of athletes involved raped and killed a girl that was passed out drunk and live tweeted about it. They call themselves “the stuvenville rape crew”. It’s really sick how town officials are trying to excuse this behavior as boys will be boys, including the local sheriff. The birth mother of one of the boys who was actually arrested posted on Facebook about the victim that whore will be whores. Rape culture in America has reached an all time low. Men and women alike need to gain courage and stand up to their peers when they see wrong being done and parents need the courage to allow their children experience the consequences for their mistakes.I hope the family of the victim gets justice and these young men are properly prosecuted for their crimes.

The victim of these crimes is not dead. I live in the Ohio Valley, and I can assure you that she is very much alive, although there are days she wishes that she wasnt. Its a terrible thing that has happened to this young girl, and now her and her family are being tormented daily. And mostly by the “adults” in the valley. By the way, no matter what the press is saying, this is not the first time that “high caliber athletes” have done this. If it wasnt for all the press coverage, im 100% sure that they would get away with it, just as the boys in the past have. I know for a fact that a large sum of money was offered for silence in this case, and subsequently denied. I hope justice is served so that no other girl will be afraid to come forward in the future.

I agree. I think, in addition to the horrid scenarios described… the callousness and indifference to the suffering of the victim shown byt hte individual in this video makes it all doubly awful. If you look at the “Big Dan’s Rape Case” in New Bedford, Massachusetts (Basis for the movie “The Accused”) from back in the day… that rather high profile trial DID establish a precedent that those who egged the rapist(s) on or did nothing to intervene could be prosecuted for their (in)actions. I hope that kind of justice applies here.

While it is sad that justice is not being delivered by the legal system or the society supporting the perpetrators, there is an ironic mix of justice and vengeance in knowing that these hacktivists have meted out a form of punishment to the perpetrators and their enablers that is similar to the rape of this poor girl: they’ve attacked and humilated the offenders without giving them the means of fighting back.
Furthermore, just as the victim will always haunted by this incident to some degree for the rest of her life, so now will the perpetrators everytime they apply for a job or college admissions, or whenever a potential love interest or their future children decide to look them up on the Internet.

It’s not remotely normal. I also grew up in a small town. Nothing like this happened. The problem is that what is “normal” is defined by those around you, and then you start to see that tiny little world as the way everyone lives. It’s bullshit. This is not at all normal, it’s what happens when kids are allowed to get away with being bullying assholes and the adults around them don’t do their fucking jobs. Prisons have this culture, but most schoolkids, not so much. The fact a couple of the kids on that vid were pissed off and vocal about it it pretty indicative of the fact that the group doing this were not representative of all the kids who live locally.
In my small town, every kid did ecstasy and coke, rather than just booze and weed. It was only when I grew up and left home that I discovered this didn’t reflect the whole world. Normally, maybe 10% of kids do. But we all thought everyone was doing it because that was all we knew. You think all small towns think gang rape of comatose kids is fine? You’re tragically mistaken.

Social workers operate on suspicions alone being good enough, too. So, you know. The rapists in your high school are at risk of losing everything (doubt their wives would ever stay with them if it got out, either) for the rest of their lives.That’s how “normal” society finds it.

The YWCA is obviously a really well known charity. Her lawyer told Piers Morgan about it on his show; the lawyer is acting for nothing, so she doesn’t need the money and wants to help other women.
