Many of us, as you can see from the replies here, do not think this way — you know that. We push back against this way of thinking every day. We’re trying to get this issue under control, not by taking all guns away or trampling on people’s rights or the Constitution, but by instituting some reasonable measures. We are the ones living in this country with these people, dealing with their fears and prejudices, and dealing with the organizations who are stoking these fears in order to line their own pockets, not you.
Please attempt to differentiate between these fear-based, irrational people and groups who are here in America, and the Americans who are rational and are trying to nip this issue in the bud. If anyone here didn’t already know this, hundreds of thousands of police officers & sheriff deputies from all over the country were flown in to provide security for the innaugeration. For example, near where I live, the Manatee County Florida sheriff’s dept. sent 45 deputies to Washington for this. They were gone for 9 days. They also had to attend special training to become temporary “air Marshalls” so they were able to carry their guns with them on the 2-3 hour flight to & from Washington….ALL paid for by taxpayer dollars. Then, when the got to Washington, they had to be fed & put up in a hotel, again on tax $$. Then in Washington they had to go through training so they knew how to do their job come swearing in day, again on taxpayers $$. Finally, the super important job that they had to fly to Washington & waste all that taxpayer money on….They got to stand along the parade route that the presidents caravan takes to the swearing in, all the while with their backs turned toward the president so they could face the crowd this whole time. Manatee County florida has 13 unsolved murders from 2012, & 4 from 2013 so far. Did we really need to send 45 deputies to the dictator’s swearing in ceremony?? How many other law enforcement agencies had to do this, & what was the cost to taxpayers?? I’m sure we will never know. Remember how he said we all needed to “hunker down & stop taking our little trips to Las Vegas & instead help our country & pay a little more in taxes so we can keep important government programs”?? Also, why is it ok for king obama to have all these guns to protect him, but we the people don’t need guns to protect ourselves?? The U.S. Constitution>barack obama. Let’s take a sample size of people say a round number of 30 million(size of California). How many gun related deaths do you think there would be? What if I told you that you could have either 2,800 OR 173? Which number do you like? Well you could pick the terrible country where all of those no good communist live…Canada. There still are criminal acts that are committed in Canada on a daily basis and we still have mentally deranged citizens as well. Also, the loopholes that are available to you are definitely a major concern as well. Now I understand why you think you need a gun to protect yourself. You think you need one because criminals all carry guns and that if a person that enters your home with the intent to harm your family you must protect yourself. Very understandable. Now what if I told you that there was an unstoppable force that everyday was working to stop this from happening and will not quit till every criminal is prosecuted/killed/or institutionalized. Would that make you feel safe? Well it already exists they are called the POLICE! Now everyday from the beginning of the new strict guns laws they will be hunting and capturing criminals everyday that carry these weapons and they will confiscate them as well. Meaning these pieces of weaponry will slowly become extinct and no longer available on the street. Also, your department of homeland security will work tirelessly to stop the black market from importing these weapons from other countries as well. You can definitely be assured of that fact. Criminals don’t care what the gun laws are, just like drug dealers don’t care that drugs are illegal and prostitutes don’t care that prostitution is illegal. If someone is crazy and going to commit a crime, any new gun law isn’t going to prevent it. I am a 30 year old woman, who has been licensed to carry for 10 years and carries a weapon on a daily basis. I have only had to pull my weapon one time when a man tried to carjack me with my two daughters in the car. Along time ago I knew this wanna-be gangster kid that wanted to buy a gun, no one knew his true intentions. Drugs are easy to find but guns on the other hand are a whole different story. After about 3 years of searching he found what he was looking for. Since ammo for the guns were equally hard to find and extremely expensive to purchase he hardly practiced shooting, and when it came time to shoot the person he hated the most (his ex) it backfired on him leaving him dead.
