THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, today I turned on the news after returning from the library on my college campus only to find out that there has been yet another school shooting, this one happening in a school library at Lone Star Community College in Houston. Due to the increasing number of school shootings that are reoccurring, (there have been 5 since January 1st) I no longer feel safe on my campus especially in heavily populated places such as the library, gym, cafeteria etc. I am an extremely happy go lucky, out going, fun loving and adventurous 19 year old girl, however since seeing this last shooting I am extremely paranoid and have become overwhelmed with anxiety constantly thinking that my school could be next. I know the gun laws have been extremely controversial since Sandy Hook and even The Dark Knight movie theatre shootings, but something needs to be done, there needs to be some kind of action taken. I personally believe that Obama is a complete idiot so I’m not surprised he hasn’t taken action yet, however I do not enjoy living in constant fear of my life every time I leave my dorm room. I don’t want my anxiety to over take me and me end up dropping out of school but I cant help to wonder what if my school is next and why the f*cking President isn’t doing his job to protect the people of this county. Nik, I want to keep living the care free, happy life that I have but I dont know what to do about my safety and how to feel about living somewhere that has been the target of these shootings all over the county time after time. Please help.

The president is taking care of more pressing issues at hand, such as his thoughts and opinions pertaining to his hypothetical son and whether or not he would allow him to participate in football. this wasnt a school shooting. two kids with guns were fighting over a girl and they shot eatchother and only eachother. a matinee worker was caught in the crossfire and a girl had a heart attack in all the commotion. calm down. not a school shooting.

I question these kinds of posts. In fact, i question what really happened at Sandy Hook and Aurora. Seems pretty clear to me that both these suspects were highly hopped up on anti-depressants, drugs, etc. In fact, most of all recent “massacres” have involved the suspects being on pharma drugs. it was not an intentional school shooting. get over yourself and put your big girl panties on. they were fighting and they pulled out guns and a few people were shot in the crossfire. a freak accident. they should have never brought guns there in the first place but don’t classify this with all the other shootings if you know nothing about it.

You register your car, right? Your computer is tracked. Your phone is tracked. Why get your panties in a bunch over your gun being registered?
The fact that guns are registered helps cops determine whose gun was used to kill who. It also helps in case your gun is stolen. When you have guns worth thousands of dollars, you’d be REALLY stupid not to register them because no one is going to believe you when you say that the $1000 gun the cops have found in the fire is truly yours.
Nothing scary about guns being tracked, taxed, and their sales being regulated. It’s only scary for the rednecks who make money off of selling weapons to the mental nuts.

Shootings have been going on every year. The reason it’s so widely reported now is because it brings the media outlets money whereas before…no one cared.
There’s nothing you can do to prevent people from shooting. Metal detectors are expensive and only can be used in and out of a building…you can’t blockade the entire campus. Armed guards are usually as useless as it gets (think Columbine or the guy who left his gun in a school bathroom).
If you’re so scared, go live in a desert in a cardboard box. Otherwise, next time you’re driving in your car, remember that you might get hit by a drunk driver and be handicapped for the rest of your life. Next time you’re at a party, remember that you might get raped. Just be scared of everything. It’ll be cool.

I hope this is a joke. You’re terrified because you hear about school shootings on the news? Some people, like me, have been through actual violent home invasions and lost everything. The robbers didn’t need a gun (there were three large men and I was a lone woman). However, I didn’t have a gun at the time, either, and it ended badly. I’m lucky to still be alive. I have nightmares about it all the time. Now, I have a shotgun. And you want to take that away because you’re scared of a school shooting that most likely will never happen? You want to send me back into helplessness and fear? You don’t care about people who need guns for protection, who have ACTUALLY been victims of violence?
The truth is schools should not be gun-free zones. If you started carrying a gun I guarantee you would feel safer. You want stricter gun laws? You are aware that criminals don’t follow laws, right? That’s why they’re criminals! I don’t understand the issue with gun laws. Most shootings that happen seem to be by people who don’t own guns and take them from their parents or steal them. The others are just insane and who is to say they won’t just start making home-made bombs? Why punish everyone for some nut jobs that can’t cope with their shit lives.

Yes, there was a shooting at Lone Star College, but does anyone realize that Houston is ghetto as f*ck and its not surprising someone got shot. It just so happened to be at a college, so of course the media portrays it to be like someone actually planned this out. There was an altercation between the individuals, and thats why the gun was pulled.
AGREED, the altercation was between two thugs. It was not a school shooting, but a shooting in a school. The thugs did not plan to shoot up the school Sandy Hook style or anything like that. The quickest and easiest solution to curbing school violence is by bringing home our National Guard troops… once stateside, assign the armed N.G. to protect every public elementary, middle and high school. It’s about time our N.G. protect U.S. citizens (with emphasis on [our] children) stateside, versus protecting those ungrateful rag heads overseas! Our federal/state taxes could be better utilized by the N.G. protecting [our] children stateside, while improving quality of life for our N.G. It’s a win-win situation.

At the end of the day, you and only you are responsible for your own safety. Get educated, take some firearm safety classes and buy yourself a nice little piece. Obtain a concealed weapons license and carry it with you. If you are in fear for your own safety you have to take control of your own life. Protect yourself.
