THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, I just want to warn everyone in the DA if you receive an email from a personal friend who has a yahoo email with the following:
Hello, I had to send this message to you, due to an unforeseen circumstance that I encountered. I traveled with my family for a Vacation to Manila, Philippines and unfortunately for us, we had an accident of which I dislocated my right arm and my head got bruised. The driver of the cab passed on due to internal bleeding and the injuries he sustained on his head.
I have not been able to reach any one due to the fact that I misplaced my phone,credit card and some valuable document during the accident.Thank goodness, my family are safe. My family are presently in the hospital, due to the injuries we sustained. I need your urgent assistance.
This email is fake and yahoo emails have been hacked so please do not send money! They will respond with this, “let me know if you can lend me some ($1,850) to sort out the hotel bills cos my return flight leaves in few hours time.” I made the mistake of wiring funds to Manila. I should have known better, but I thought a dear friend was in trouble. DA don’t make the same mistake I did.
I got the same email from Scooby who was standing right next to me at the time. I looked at him and asked if he was on vacation in the Philippines… he said No.- nik

This scam has been around for years and it cannot be the first time you’ve ever gotten it unless this is the first time you’ve used the internet EVER. . this scam has been going around for at least 12 years; the country just changes.

Scammers used the same story when they hacked into peoples facebook and started chatting with their friends. Then though I think they were saying the got mugged in London.. I ALMOST fell for it.. but as soon as I told the person to go to the CAN Consulate or the Police they kept just referring to needing money.. I figured out pretty quick after what was up.. needless to say i had a little fun after that..

Emails like this have been around for a long time. You have to be pretty stupid to actually fall for it.
Yes,their family is hospitalized, they misplaced their phone, credit card and “some valuable document”..but thank goodness they were able to send out that emergency email somehow!

I’d never fall for these scams. My friends know better than to ask for money from me. Not to mention I know when my friends go on holiday, as they usually talk about it for weeks. And besides all that, I’m paranoid unless I give my friend cold hard cash. For that to happen, they need to be here, right in front of me with a damn good story of what it’s for.
