THE DIRTY ARMY: So Nik, just wondering what you think of Houston. I know you have been here a few times to party. I am a Houston native but have been living in California for the past year. When people here in Cali hear Houston or Texas they automatically hate. People don’t know that Houston is a large melting pot and largely democratic (besides the oil guys) we have a lesbian mayor, Anise Parker. Houston’s economy and Texas’s economy is booming in general due to Oil & Gas. There is plenty of entertainment districts, places to eat and go out. Don’t forget the good southern values that Texas has to offer that Cali would never have. Would you rate it up there with some Cali cities such as LA, San Diego, or SF. I think H-town and just Texas in general has came up a lot since the 2000′s and it’s finally getting some national recognition in 2010′s. What’s the dirty armys opinion about Houston? More and more younger people are moving down here due to economic reasons.. The avg age in Houston is merely 33!

Houston is a sh*thole, and so are 99% of the people in it. The UGLIEST people live here and infest the clubs. Houston is nothing but minorities (which are actually the vast majority) and it makes my stomach turn to think of going out to even the most “upscale,” and I use that term loosely, of venues.

From Cali is so right I have been living on Orange County for 20 years (England before that) and I hate it here. I’m currently saving up to move to Hawaii… the people in OC and LA are awful. All wannabe models and musicians all no talent ass clowns and the Heroin and Meth movement out here is growing stronger by the day. Yes everyone here is beautiful but if you’ve seen one blonde with +2s they all look exactly the same. And imagine a million Nik Ritchie’s around you? We are generally polite down here. Everyone I have ever met from Cali or in Cali was full of themselves and rude, kind of like your comment. I hope that wasn’t too entertaining for you. For you to pretend like southern hospitality doesn’t exist is just funny.
Why would anyone care about Texas when we live in Ca? Houston? We have Sacramento. San Antonio? We have Fresno. And thats just how everyone else views where u are from. LA and OC loves to rip on certain cities but we are still CA. Money, pretty girls, snow, lakes, ocean just an hour or two away! We can drive to Carmel in 2 hours. LA in 3.5. SF in 2.5. OC in 4+, Santa Barbara in 4 hrs and fly to SD in 40 minutes. Fly to Vegas in 45 min. Not sure where u live in CA but there r plenty of hippie areas and country areas and City for ALL of us. Taxes suck, but the many options just out weigh your odd complaints. Southern values(inferring conservatism) and ur pointing out lesbian mayor(soooo cutting edge and liberal) seems contradictory. CA has had openly gay mayors since 1984. So your point is just outdated which means behind the times which means behind Cali.

Houston born and raised here. It’s a love-hate. I love it because the state’s conservative politics have kept it on top of the rest of the USA. It’s a great place if you are hard worker, it’s a terrible place if you are stupid and/or don’t want to work. Just the way I like it.
On the flip side, there is no zoning and trash is everywhere. We have a huge problem with the black population, over 3/4 of it being trouble. That’s why they get profiled, but the media won’t tell you that. If there is a black guy in your neighborhood in a hoodie at night, 99 times out of 100 he is up to no good. FACT. The other downside is our economy kicks so much ass that refugees from other states have been invading us. Soon they will be voting and eventually we will turn blue. The blue political system will make it unfriendly to business essentially erasing the ONLY reason one would have for living here. Cost of living will rise and we will become another ugly shithole like Detroit.
Oh yeah, and the night life is SO ghetto. A club/bar gets 2 weeks of prime time before it takes a nose dive.

People can hate all they want on Texas, Houston in particular, but the facts are facts. We are the 4th largest city in the US, and have arguably the lowest cost of living in the country. We’re next to beaches, casinos, and no state income tax. We are a melting pot of culture, not just a bunch of stuck up ass hat hipsters, or big titty blonds all looking to suck the next dick to get in a movie (although we have those too). Just saying, people don’t give us a shot because they don’t know the real H-town. here you can buy a 3500 sq foot home, lake side view for $300k. In Cali, you can’t do that. Unlike Dallas or Cali, we can buy our own porches and Ferraris, not lease them in groups like those douchebags. So hate all you want, while you scrape to get by. I’m posted up in a beautiful home, with a beautiful southern wife, with 3 luxury cars while you idiots can just afford to window shop. This is an amusing convo. As a native Houstonian I would say that Houston is among one of the ugliest cities. Yes, the cost of living is cheap, food is fab, sports is ok. But you get what you pay for. Crime has been an issue to to being so close to the Mexican border, and the hurricane Katrina refugees have overstayed their welcome.
Houston vs Cali..Beautiful movie stars and millionaires flock to Cali for good reason. It’s Beautiful with perfect weather year round. Comparing Pacific Palisades or any other upscale area in Cali to Houston…thats like comparing Lake Conroe to Lake Tahoe..I could go on.

I kinda-sorta live in Houston, cypress, tx really. Idk how to describe it. It has it’s great areas, then it’s not so great. Growing up there i never really understood how people take vacations here. There’s a few nice places to shop, but overall it’s a regular city. I wouldn’t ever move back into the city limits, though. Major cities have too much crime and people for me.

Houston is growing by leaps and bounds. Its no wonder it’s the most relocated to city for the 4th straight year. We also have the most jobs. Anybody with brains in small town America who finishes college comes here, finds a great job, buys a nice house for under a million and adds to our beautiful melting pot. Unlike superficial LA where there’s 1 job per 10 people.
