‘Baked Expectations’: A Coffee Shop Or Perhaps A Den Of Thieves?!!
THE DIRTY ARMY: Baked Expectations is a coffee shop on Osborne Village, Winnipeg, but it might also be a den of thieves, based on my own terrible recent experience there… A few weeks ago I went there with a few friends. Service was bad, and one of us found a hair in his cake. But it is what came next that really shocked me. We all left at their closing time, with me forgetting behind, on the table, my small wallet and a pair of expensive sunglasses. I came back the day after, and was referred to the owner, a scary looking short and fat woman whose name, I later found out, is BETH GRUBERT. She said they have found my wallet, but not my glasses. She pulled it not out from any lost & found box, as I expected, but rather out of her own purse. When I got home I realized that all the cash I had there was somehow gone. I went back to the store to speak to this Beth. She now became rude and aggressive and said that she handed me the wallet back exactly as found. I then noticed that she is wearing my glasses. When I suggested the glasses are mine, she denied it, turned red, and quickly threw me out of the store. I left to save myself the confrontation. I will never again go back to such a place, and thought of now alerting others too. I did some online research about her, afterwards. Her (late) father, Oscar, a wealthy Jewish businessman, apparently bought her this business years ago. And so, she is not a needy person and in fact comes from a seemingly good family. Why will she then behave like this? Is she sick (kleptomaniac), or is it simply a case of pure greed? This way or another, Be-ware my fellow Winnipeggers! !
