Beware of Russ Wyatt, the drunken and addict member of Winnipeg’s city council

THE DIRTY ARMY:  Russ Wyatt is a member of Winnipeg’s city council since 2002. He has just now returned to work from an extended leave, lasting no less than 79 days and fully paid by the city. Wyatt spent this time battling years long alcohol and substance abuse. He has done so comfortably in an expensive and private rehab facility in Gimli, outside the city. Not too many people still remember, but on 2013, the corrupt former mayor of Winnipeg, Sam Katz, as well as his friend and appointee to the position of the city’s CEO, the crooked Phil Sheegl, were correctly criticized by city council, external auditors, and the media and public, who all lost any trust in them. Katz and Sheegl have been criticized for cost overruns, kickbacks and favouritism- all along the process of building the new police headquarter and three new fire halls. These matters are now still under full blown investigation by the RCMP. However, Russ Wyatt ignored all this genuine criticism and calls for Katz’s resignation, and instead he held tight to his sit with the mayor’s municipal cabinet. In fact, Wyatt was then even promoted within the cabinet to a position of secretary of economic development… No surprise that Sam Katz and Phil Sheegl got away so far with their repeated crimes against the tax payers, if taking to account that someone like Russ Wyatt, a drunken and an addict, was there at those crucial times expected to act as ‘watch dog’ for the hard working citizens of Winnipeg. Actually, the strong rumors that I have heard and believe, are that Russ Wyatt was a regular in a restaurant owned by Sam Katz, and that his large booze bill there was somehow always taken care of. Moreover, if by other such information the city police chief was ordered, by Sam Katz, and complied, not to press charges against Wyatt and to hush at least one incident whereby Wyatt was pulled over for driving under the influence. We all, I am sure, wishing you Russ Wyatt much success with overcoming your serious personal issues. Having said this, if you were drunk and high when millions of taxpayers money were stolen by Katz and Sheegl and transferred to Scottsdale, Arizona, then you are negligent and incompetent. And if it happened at the very few times of when you might have been fully sober, then this makes you an accessory. This way or another, you do not deserve the warm welcome that you somehow received at city hall when currently returning from this luxury rehab, and I suggest you save yourself any further embarrassment and avoid, like your friend Sam Katz, putting yourself to any re-election in the future!

He is also a gay pervert who was recently charged with a serious sexual assault.

    • Berry Sherman (RIP)August 18, 2018 at 8:49 PM

It is shocking to see him remaining in public office regardless of these serious criminal charges against him.
He has done one thing right, though.
When recently retaining a high-priced Jewish defence lawyer…

  2. Mayorial candidateJuly 11, 2018 at 8:28 AM

He has now came out of the closet, and was criminally charged in sexually assaulting a young male escort whose number he got from Sam Katz…

To start with his family paid for his rehab, not the taxpayers.
    Sick uninformed bunch of haters.

    • Justice & TruthJune 9, 2018 at 6:14 PM

Invoice can now be viewed online.
      City paid it.
      You are so naive.

    • BookkeeperJune 9, 2018 at 11:21 AM

The private rehab center invoiced the city. The invoice can now be found online. So pleade do some research before commenting here!

Is Wyatt related to Toronto’s former (late) mayor, Ford, who was also a crackhead?

    • Winnipeg ResidentJune 9, 2018 at 5:48 AM

I’m sorry but a freedom of information request that the city had to answer proves otherwise. The guy is useless and perhaps even corrupt. He is an emberrasment to his family and a liability to the taxpayers. He should go.
      We all deserve better.

Wyatt and Katz were in fact lovers.

  5. Former StudentMay 27, 2018 at 2:36 PM

Was he also ‘high’ when his patron at the time, Sam Katz, brought a scandalous legal action against a students newspaper?

    • Jared KushnerMay 27, 2018 at 7:19 PM

Certainly he must have been on something, when city lawyer missed a deadline in court, which cost the taxpayers millions of dollars.

Council in the sky, with diamonds…

  7. The AccountantMay 27, 2018 at 11:57 AM

Did the city remember to claim the celebrities discount, when registering Wyatt to this private rehab facility? lol

    • Street SmartMay 27, 2018 at 1:03 PM

I hear that the bill was over 35k.
      Lucky bastard.
No one was there for me when I needed rehab.

That is just a bit more than what city hall has spent on an (ugly) portrait of the (infamous) Sam Katz.
So come on, it could have been worse…

  8. Private EyeMay 27, 2018 at 10:54 AM

Police should question him, to find out who the dealers were (who sold him drugs).
    I’m just saying…

    That is not a watchdog.
This is a pussycat, at best.
    And a very sick one…

    “Voluntarily” (treatment) my foot!
The real story here is much more ugly, but will be too much even for this website…

  11. HR SpecialistMay 27, 2018 at 8:59 AM

Hey Wyatt, why won’t you resign and go work, like so many others around you, for “Shindico”?!!

  12. Jewish ComedianMay 27, 2018 at 8:52 AM

Is he not the one who criticized the city police when another drunken member of council, Ross Eadie, was arrested?
    Hilarious, yet so sad.

  13. Tax payerMay 27, 2018 at 8:45 AM

He somehow received a hero’s welcome by city council when returning to “work”.
If this is the case, I have two suggestions:
    1. The mayor should appoint him to the Winnipeg Police Board;
    2. The city should pay for a portrait of him, to be placed at city hall right next to the expensive portrait of the disgraced former mayor, Sam Katz.

  14. Concerned citizenMay 27, 2018 at 8:39 AM

Over the years I sent this wasted junkie a few letters regarding civic matters.
    There was never any reply.
Same when I called his office.
While I am not ready to forgive, I now at least know why…
