Flash back to 1997, the year the blockbuster Titanic came out. Say the word Titanic and you’re sure to think quickly of Celine Dion‘s song, My Heart Will Go On.
Recently, Dion appeared at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards stage and talked about the song and its 20th year anniversary.
“It’s quite special to be here this time singing My Heart Will Go On,” Dion shared. “I can’t believe it’s been 20 years. What an honor first of all- classic that I will sing for the rest of my life. It’s a good problem to have. People are asking me often are you tired to sing that song? Sometimes I’m like oh I can’t believe. And then the curtains open and people are like crying. It’s like the first time they hear. If you’re stuck with classics I can’t complain. I’m very very fortunate.”
“My husband always told me I didn’t want to have a hit,” she added. “I wanted to have a career. I think if you’re part of one classic in your life- if you’re fortunate enough to have one classic in your life- you can be remembered for the rest of your journey if you want to stop singing tomorrow. I don’t want to sound pretentious saying this, but from Beauty and The Beast by the way and The Titanic My Heart Will Go On, I think I’m all set.”
As grating as My Heart Will Go On can be to listen to, we’ll give it to Dion- it’s definitely a classic that will always be remembered… near… far… wherever you are.
