Nik, is this ad racist in your opinion?

THE DIRTY ARMY: Nik, recently H&M posted an ad with little kids in hoodies. A black child modeled the “cutest monkey in the jungle” hoodie. The hoodie is cute and is not racist, of course, but monkey and ape are slurs against black people. On one hand I understand why people are upset, but on the other hand if a white kid can wear this hoodie why is it all of a sudden racist when a black child wears it? Do you think this ad was racist, an oversight, or people getting worked up over nothing?

It’s a sweater for kids. America needs to chill out… stop being so sensitive over anything put in front of them. BTW- it’s raining today in the OC. That means God is racist.- nik

Obviously if you’re white, you’re not gonna think this is racist and if you’re black you’re gonna think this is racist. Is it racist? I mean why pick a black boy to model that sweatshirt?

Of course it’s racist! No they just happened to put the only dark skinned boy in a sweater that reads coolest monkey in the jungle. Please that’s no accident that unconscious/conscious racism.

I see a sweet child modeling a sweatshirt. People who think this is racist are the only racists. They build this perception and share it until it becomes a problem

I didn’t see anything wrong with this AT ALL. I call my boys monkeys all the time because I used to read the book to them. It’s just something that parents love to call their kids. Bronbron is always butthurt about something. GEEZ. Maybe he’s racist.

I’m sure this is just an honest mistake but this is hilarious that a company could put something like this out and not notice it. Anyway, H&M always has their models doing the weirdest looking poses – almost like they photo shopped their head onto another body.

Wasn’t H&M under fire for another ad campaign a while ago?
