Trump Pledges Support For Egypt, Claims We Are Behind Them
Yesterday, President Donald Trump met with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the President of Egypt. Trump spoke to the press with al-Sisi by his side, and seemingly pledged his support for Egypt.
“It’s great to be with the President of Egypt,” Trump stated. “And I will tell you President al-Sisi has been somebody that’s been very close to me from the first time I met him.”
“I met during the campaign,” he continued, “and at that point there were two of us. And at that point there were two of us and we both met. And hopefully you’ll like me a lot more. But it was a very long- it was supposed to be just a quick brief meeting- and we were with each other for a long period of time.”
“We agree on so many things,” Trump added.
Trump then stated his (and America’s) support for Egypt, claiming that, “I just want to let everybody know in case there was any doubt that we are very much behind President al-Sisi. He’s done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation.”
“We are very much behind Egypt and the people of Egypt,” Trump reaffirmed.
On Twitter, Trump seemed to indicate the meeting went well, tweeting that, “It was an honor to welcome President Al Sisi of Egypt to the @WhiteHouse as we renew the historic partnership between the U.S. and Egypt.”
