EXCLUSIVE: Model Alexa Chung – Accuses Luxury Consignment Company of Illegally Profiting Off Her Face
The Dirty can exclusively reveal model Alexa Chung has headed to court accusing a luxury consignment company of illegally profiting off her valuable and lucrative face … and now the model has headed to court demanding an injunction forcing them to cease using her face to hawk their products and damages for the harm they caused.
Chung – along with 17 other models – sued a online luxury consignment website, TheRealReal Inc, accusing them of illegally profiting off her face. The website offers a full-service marketplace where garments, bags, jewelry, art and other items are inspected and authenticated as “real” before being sold.
The model explains she is “an actress, fashion influencer, and television host, who is considered by many to be the top “it girl” in the world.” … having endorsed numerous companies, appeared on Vogue, Glamor, GQ and Evening Standard Magazine along with appearing on Gossip Girl and having her own MTV talk show. She details how her name, image, portrait or likeness has earned her a considerable sum of money over the years … for promoting various products or services … and her name & face are her breadwinner and valuable to her brand.
Chung fired off a cease and desist to the company in April 2016 but they have refused to comply with her demands to remove her images … saying they never obtained her permission or paid her a dime. She accuses them of attempting to illegally profit off her name by making it appear she endorses their company.
The model is suing for compensatory damages, exemplary damages and a permanent injunction against the business from ever using their face or name ever.
