EXCLUSIVE: Alleged Pharma Fraudster Martin Shkreli – Judge Allows Him to Travel While His Criminal Case Is Pending
Alleged pharma fraudster Martin Shkreli – infamous for jacking up the price of AIDS medication – has headed to court pleading with the judge presiding over his criminal case to give the green light for him to travel outside NY … so he can attend a social event and a couple speaking engagements.
Back in December, Shkreli was arrested by the FBI on charges he screwed over investors and ran a Ponzi-like scheme. The federal indictment charged Shkreli with securities fraud following an investigation into his time working at MSMB Capital Management and Retrophin.
The indictment claimed he ran a Ponzi-like scheme and the United States Department of Justice said, “Martin Shkreli engaged in multiple schemes to ensnare investors through a web of lies and deceit”.
Shkreli said he was a target of law enforcement due to his massive price raises in the drug Daraprim which treated patients with AIDS. The pharma exec plead not guilty to the allegations of securities fraud in June. He’s facing 20 years in prison if convicted. Shkreli was released on $5 million dollars bond and part of the conditions of his release – he cannot travel outside the Eastern and Southern districts of New York unless permitted by the court.
The Dirty can exclusively report Shkreli sent a letter today (January 11, 2017) to the judge in his criminal case and pleaded for approval to travel around the country. He explains he is requesting to leave this week for California for a speaking engagement at the University of California, Davis.
His next stop will be D.C. to attend a social event for a couple days and finally he asked to leave for Princeton next month for another speaking engagement. He explains he spoke to the prosecution and they have not objected to the request.
The judge didn’t see a problem with the alleged fraudster traveling around while his criminal case is pending … and signed off on Shkreli traveling for all 3 getaways. Must be nice.
