Amare Stoudemire – Makes Homophobic Remark, Defends It, Then Apologizes
Recently, former NBA star Amare Stoudemire was interviewed by an Israeli website Walla Sport. In the interview, the topic of him having hypothetically having a gay teammate came up.
To this, he claimed that he would “shower across the street, make sure my change of clothes are around the corner.”
When the interviewer asked if he was joking, he said, “I mean, there’s always a truth within a joke.”
As could be predicted, he was going to get heat for the comment, and, unsurprisingly, he has begun back peddling.
He released a statement, saying, “I want to apologize for my offensive comments against the LGBT community. These remarks were taken from a larger interview where a reporter was asking me hypothetical questions, and all my answers had a comedic undertone.”
Sorry, Stoudemire, but we’re not buying what you’re selling. It sounds like you’re doing major damage control after getting backlash for something you clearly indicated had “some truth” to it. Just own it.
