Billy Joel Rocks Out MSG
Billy Joel is a legend, and we had the opportunity to see him last night at New York City’s infamous Madison Square Garden. Although Joel is 67 years old, he proved last night that he hasn’t lost a bit of his stamina with age, and is one of the best performers still around.
When the show began with Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway), the crowd immediately went into a rapturous bout of well deserved applause, screaming at the top of their lungs for the rock icon.
From then on came a lengthy night of hits- and some rarities- including the beloved Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, the catchy Don’t Ask Me Why, and the closer You May Be Right.
What’s most amazing about Joel is his staying power with crowds both young and old. He’s been around since the late 1960’s and, much to his credit, has managed to sell out the iconic New York City venue innumerable times.
Of note in this particular show was the addition of House Of Cards actor Kevin Spacey, who joined Joel onstage for an epic performance of his hit song New York State Of Mind. Spacey did a great job and the audience was definitely excited to see him.
With his show- which, it’s worth noting, was completely sold out and lasted well over two hours- Joel proved he can command an audience that is riveted by his talent and his ability to still “rock out” after all these years. Also, although some have claimed he’s lost some of his vocal prowess since his prime, we personally thought he sounded as good as ever, and were beyond enthralled with how much talent he has so many years after his career began.
The only disappointing thing about Joel is that he hasn’t released a new album of original (vocal led) songs since 93’s River of Dreams. From the literally thousands of fans singing along to his songs last night, we doubt we’re alone in saying we’re still anxiously awaiting that.
Regardless, if you’re in the NYC area (or somewhere else Joel happens to be performing), we highly recommend seeing him. You’re in for quite a treat and an evening you won’t soon forget.
