EXCLUSIVE: Bob Marley – Late Musician’s Son Demands Record Label Cough Up $180k
The Dirty can exclusively reveal Bob Marley’s son Ky-Mani is accusing a record label of screwing him out of $180k and refusing to pay him royalties owed and now the legendary musician’s offspring has slapped them with a suit demanding the court help him collect.
Ky-Mani Marley – only son of Bob and Anita Belnavis, a Jamaican table tennis champ – slapped Vox Music Group with legal docs recently in New York Court. Bob’s son is a musician and songwriter like his late father. He signed a record deal with Vox Music back in 2007.
The record deal stated Marley was to be paid a $350,000 advance, $1,000,000 to cover recording, artist advance, marketing and promotion along with 50% ownership in his music along.
However, things turned sour and Marley accused the label of screwing him out of $250k from his advance and refusing to turn over $213,327 he was owed. He took the label to arbitration and a decision came back in October awarding Marley the full rights to all his music, $180,245.32 from Vox and an additional $7k for fees.
Marley has filed suit in NY recently to confirm the judgement and for a court order laying out a payment schedule that states how much Vox has to pay him per month until the debt is settled.
