BREAKING NEWS: Matt Barnes’ Lawyer Drops The NBA Star — Assault Lawsuit With Woman In New York Nightclub
Nik, so Matt Barnes’ lawyer has headed to court in the lawsuit accusing the NBA star of assaulting a woman inside a New York club and the attorney is demanding the judge allow him to drop his client… due to him failing to pay him for the job!
Earlier this month, Barnes and fellow NBA star Demarcus Cousins were sued by Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell … accusing them of attacking them inside a New York nightclub. The suit explained that on December 5th, the plaintiffs were hanging out in their VIP booth in the early morning hours. The two were seated next to a booth occupied by the NBA stars. Jasmine claimed that for no reasons Barnes came up to her and choked her. Her friend said he saw the attack and tried to stop the NBA star. Once he tried to get Barnes off his friend, Demarcus then came in and punched him in the face.
The duo said Barnes then released the woman’s neck but proceeded to hit her in the face with his elbow … which caused her to become unconscious. The NBA stars then began kicking the friend and punching him in the head and body. The NYPD arrived at the scene but Barnes and Cousins had already left the scene. They filed suit against Barnes and Cousins for assault, battery and the intentional infliction of emotional distress and are seeking unspecified damages for the alleged beat down.
Barnes and his teammate released statements denying they attacked the clubbers and said they were the real victims after being attacked by other patrons after one accidently bumped something in the VIP area. The NBA stars have yet to respond to the lawsuit filed in New York Federal Court.
Then on December 22nd, Barnes’ lawyer wrote a letter to the judge presiding over the case pleading to be allowed to drop his NBA star client:
The lawyer explains that Barnes hired them to defend him in the assault & battery lawsuit filed earlier this month. They say they even filed docs in the suit explaining they will be representing him going forward. However, the attorney is now demanding the judge approve him dropping Barnes as a client. He explains that despite executing an engagement letter with his firm, the NBA star has failed to pay the agreed amount retainer amount.
As a result, the lawyer is over Barnes and is demanding he be allowed to drop him as a client and be removed completely from the legal battle. The judge has yet to make a decision on the motion.
