EXCLUSIVE: Donald Sterling – Wife Shelly Accused of Violating Federal Law, Disabled Woman Sues Over Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel
The Dirty can exclusively reveal Donald Sterling’s wife Shelly is accused of violating federal law by refusing to make changes to the Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel – to make it accessible to disabled guests – and now a woman has slapped the former Clippers owner.
Theresa Brooke – a disabled woman confined to a wheelchair – filed suit against Rochelle aka Shelly Sterling accusing her of violating the Disabilities Act. The woman explains she contacted the Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel in hopes of booking a room for a trip to Los Angeles. She asked the hotel rep if they had a hotel pool or Jacuzzi with a pool lift or other means of access for a disabled person … which they told her they did not.
Brooke says she wants to stay at Shelly’s hotel but these barriers preventing her from using the pool facilities are preventing her. She says she has several upcoming planned trips to Los Angeles but will not pay money to book a room at the Beverly Hills Plaza due to them not providing disabled persons the access equal to able-bodied persons.
She points out she has frequented the hotel in the past and wishes to stay there. However, she says the hotel facilities aren’t fit for disabled individuals even though there are easy modifications to fix this. Further, she says Shelly is violating federal laws by not making her hotel accessible to everyone.
Brooke calls out Shelly saying she has a history of failing to comply with the law with her properties. She sued demanding $4k in monetary damages plus a court order forcing Shelly to fix her hotel for disabled people and for the court to make sure the changes are made to the Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel.
Shelly famously took control of the sale of the Clippers and went on to sell the team for $2 billion dollars back in 2014. Her marriage to Donald has been rocky with him filing for divorce but then withdrew his petition last year.
