EXCLUSIVE: Dr. Oz – Ordered to Answer if He Was Paid to Hawk Bogus Weight Loss Products in Class Action Lawsuit
The Dirty can exclusively reveal Dr. Oz has been ordered to answer whether he had a financial incentive to hawk a weight loss product on his talk show … with judge siding with the plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accusing him of promoting sham pills to his viewers.
Last year, a woman named Vera Woodard filed a class action lawsuit against Dr. Oz accusing the television host of lying and misleading his audience by promoting weight loss products that allegedly were bogus and had no evidence to back up their claims.
The suit filed on behalf of all customers is seeking damages from Dr. Oz and Harpo Productions (who produces the television show).
Then recently, Woodard headed back to court demanding the judge force Dr. Oz to hand over key documents in the legal battle. She accused the doctor of refusing to hand over vital financial information including whether or not he had an economic or commercial motivation to make the statements on his show.
Then on March 6th, the judge came back with his decision and sided with the plaintiff – ordering Dr. Oz to hand over the financial records to Woodard ASAP. Further, in regards to the requests for documents and information on whether Oz had sponsorship or endorsement deals with the companies he promoted on his talk show … the judge says these are incredibly relevant to the issues at hand in this case.
