Ex-‘Bachelorette’ Contestant Jared Haibon – Fires Back at NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Take Down of The Hit Reality Show
Nik, former ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ contestant Jared Haibon Kareem is firing back at NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s claim the reality show is killing romance in America …. saying nobody ever shows their true selves on a date … regardless of a camera being in your face.
Earlier this week, Kareem wrote a scathing piece for The Hollywood Reporter about his belief that ‘The Bachelor’ is killing romance in America.
He wrote, “There are many lucrative business reasons for the pimping out of unrealistic romantic love in American popular culture, but the plastic face of it is the trendy Bachelor and Bachelorette franchise. As entertaining as these shows are (and they really are compelling fun), there is an insidious darkness beneath the fairytale pabulum they are serving up.”
Kareem added, “The fact that most of these relationships eventually wither when not nourished by the lights and cameras reveals just how much of a fantasy it all is. The real danger is when we try to apply that fantasy thinking to our own lives. And when we think about where our children learn about the realities of romance, it becomes even more important to question what may influence their behavior in choosing a partner.”
Jared Haibon, who starred on both ‘The Bachelorette’ and 2 seasons of “Bachelor in Paradise’, fired back last night saying the NBA legend has it all wrong when it comes to the reality show killing romance.
He explains that everyone hides their true selves on dates even without a reality show crew filming … and claimed Kareem was totally wrong about the show changing society in a negative way.
Kareem is right — we are doomed. But thank you Jared for reminding me you exist.- nik
