EXCLUSIVE: Ex-NFL star Jamal Lewis – 5-Year Long Bankruptcy Finally Closed, Creditors Screwed Out of Millions
The Dirty can exclusively reveal ex-NFL star Jamal Lewis can breathe a little easier now that his Chapter 11 bankruptcy has finally come to an end … following 5-years in court battling it out over his finances and many creditors won’t be seeing a dime.
Back in 2012, Lewis filed for bankruptcy claiming he had over $10.5 million in debt with $14 million in assets.
His assets included five homes, various luxury cars and even interest in a Columbus, OH water park (estimated value – $6 million).
Lewis said he was pulling in $35k a month but his finances were a mess. The case dragged out for years and the trustee even sued another NFL star over the return of a tricked out luxury car worth $350k.
Then recently, the trustee filed his final report in the case requesting the judge officially close it. The IRS got screwed with them only being paid $50,154.94 on their claim of $2 million + for back taxes, Mercedes-Benz will be paid nothing for their $60k claim and many other creditors won’t be seeing a dime of their claims ranging from $2.9 mill to $25 million.
The trustee says the actual amount of unsecured creditors’ claim totaled over $47 million dollars. Lewis can now breathe a little easier with his case officially closing.
