EXCLUSIVE: Ex-NFL star Shawne Merriman – Blasted in $2 Million Legal Battle over Stephen Curry Shoe Line
The Dirty can exclusively reveal ex-NFL star Shawne Merriman is being blasted by Under Armour in his $2 million suit accusing them of illegally profiting off his trademark … with the company now firing back calling the case nonsense and demand it be thrown out.
Merriman sued Under Armour for $2 million accusing them of illegally profiting off his trademark “Lights Out”.
He took issue with the company hawking their Stephen Curry basketball shoe line under the name “Curry 3 Lights Out” and used the phrase on a mobile game. The ex-NFL star is seeking damages plus an injunction against Under Armour from selling any products with his trademark.
Now, the sportswear company is firing back at Merriman’s suit demanding it be tossed. They explain they settled a similar lawsuit with Merriman in 2015 and agreed not to use “Lights Out” not “Hit the Lights” like they used.
In regards to Curry’s shoe line they claim to have never sold it under that name and rather it was third-party websites called shoes they made specifically for him but were never available for sale.
