EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight Sheila Downs- Our Story Isn’t A Fairytale
Getting Married At First Sight, something three couples do each season on the hit reality show, certainly is an experience very few can relate to. Recently, we caught up with current cast member Sheila Downs to exclusively talk about her marriage to Nate Duhon.
“I was eerily calm on my wedding day,” Downs began with sharing of her big day, “but as the doors opened and I began walking down the aisle to meet my husband for the very first time, I was definitely nervous. That is such a HUGE moment and there was a million things running through my head. So I prayed, took a deep breath, and walked toward who I hoped would be my forever.”
We always are curious as to why someone would want to get married to a complete stranger.
On that note, Downs shared, “I wanted to get married at first sight because I believe in love and I’m at a stage in my life where I’m ready to settle down and start a family. I also believe that if two people are equally committed then it doesn’t take a lifetime of dating to build a sustainable marriage, so my question is: why not get married at first sight?”
“It was such a surreal experience to go from being utterly single to suddenly married,” Downs continued. “Everything was such a whirlwind, so it was definitely an out of body experience for a while there. It definitely took a couple weeks for it to really settle in. I think once we got back from the honeymoon and reemerged as husband and wife in real life, it really hit home.”
As for what fans can expect to see as the season continued, Downs dished that, “I think fans can look forward to seeing Nate and I grow both individually as well as together. Our story isn’t some fairy tale. It’s raw sometimes and far from perfect, but it’s real. Our story is reflective of a lot of relationships. It doesn’t just magically happen. We roll up our sleeves and work at our marriage and I think that’s relatable.”
We look forward to continuing to watch Downs, Duhon, and the rest of the cast and how their relationships evolve this season.
Married At First Sight airs tonight on Lifetime TV at 9 PM EST.
