EXCLUSIVE: NBA star Thabo Sefolosha – Settles $50 Million Legal Battle with NYPD over Alleged False Arrest
The Dirty can exclusively reveal NBA star Thabo Sefolosha has agreed to settle his $50 million dollar lawsuit against the NYPD accusing them of falsely arresting him outside a NY Club with a deal being reached with a confidential number being agreed upon by both parties.
Last year, the NBA star sued 5 NYPD officers involved in a violent arrest outside a NYC nightclub.
He explained the incident caused him to suffer severe injuries including a broken fibula and ligament damage. Sefolosha believed the incident was a racial matter and referenced his African descent and the hoodie he was wearing that night.
Sefolosha was charged with obstructing justice, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, but was later cleared of all charges. He sued seeking up to $50 million in damages.
The NYPD and officers fired back denying they violently arrested the NBA star. They blamed him for any injuries due to his own negligent conduct. They demanded the suit be thrown out.
Then on April 5th, docs were filed stating Thabo and the defendants have agreed to settle the entire matter and have agreed upon a number for the agreement.
The judge ordered the case to be closed and all claims against the parties to be dismissed. The case will stay closed unless the parties cannot finalize the official settlement deal.
