EXCLUSIVE: NBA star J.R. Smith – Blasted by Alleged Assault Victim in Legal Battle, Demands He Not Be Given Special Treatment for Being Famous
The Dirty can exclusively reveal J.R. Smith is being blasted for attempting to postpone a deposition in a legal battle – saying he can’t miss a day in the middle of the NBA season and now the alleged assault victim is demanding the court not give him ANY celebrity treatment in the case.
A 19-year-old named Justin Brown sued Smith for allegedly attacking him outside a New York Pizza joint. He demanded over $2.5 million in damages from J.R. for the emotional distress, pain and humiliation he suffered.
J.R. headed to court recently explaining the teenager wants him to sit down for a deposition before June 1st. This is a problem since is currently in the midst of the NBA season and he cannot be deposed during the season and post-season, “assuming his team continues on its current trajectory”. He clearly doesn’t want to mess with The Cavaliers season, since they are #1 in the NBA Eastern Conference.
He pleaded with the judge to not force him to be deposed by June but push the deadline to August when the season is over.
Now, the plaintiff is demanding J.R. not be given any special treatment simple because he’s an athlete. He says the vast majority of people involved in lawsuits have to overcome conflicts with work and schedules … often under tougher circumstances than missing a basketball game and who have millions in the bank.
Brown demands the judge not grant J.R.’s plea and to order the deposition to take place during the NBA season.
