EXCLUSIVE: The iPhone 7 In Red Stinks, Mainly Because, It’s Ugly
Whenever a new iPhone is announced, it’s a big deal. That’s why we were super pumped when Apple announced that they were going to be releasing the current iPhone in a red iteration. While we’re still supportive of the phone’s charitable cause- as Apple claims “every purchase contributes to the Global Fund to support HIV/AIDS programs and help deliver an AIDS-free generation”– we don’t really like the phone itself.
The reason we don’t really like the phone is quite simple- frankly, it’s ugly. Hideous, in fact.
We went into the store to check it out, expecting a look that would be a red version of the stylish “jet black” iPhone. Unfortunately, what we saw, was a dull red color, that looked like it belonged in a teenager’s pocket as an iPod from the early 2000’s. While throwback colors and looks can be good, this one is a big bust.
There’s also another issue with the phone. While we were initially willing to overlook the fact that nothing was different about the phone aside from the color, now that we’ve seen how ugly the color is, it made us think more about how ballsy of a move it is on Apple’s part to release a phone, approximately six months after it’s released, that’s exactly the same except for being a different color. Sure, the charity part is great, but Apple makes so much money every year, why couldn’t they just donate to charity without making a product? Also, Apple hasn’t specified what percentage of the sales are going to charity, so if we had to guess, they’re likely still making some profit on the phone.
Needless to say, this is an Apple product that’s getting a big thumbs down from us. Come stronger with your iPhone 8 game, Apple. We’re anxiously awaiting something new, fashionable, and innovative.
